Research
My research currently runs along two strands:
I am intersted in how we can communicate with silence and the political implications these conversational silences can have. I explore issues surrounding silence and dissent/assent, deniability, silencing and various models of how we can communicate with silence - that is, how the existing frameworks in philosophy of language can or cannot accomodate the conversational features of silence.
Further, I focus on trans equality and trans issues in relation to speech. Here, I'm specifically interested in gender neutrality across languages, including pronouns, honorifix and other gendered grammatical features. Further, I'm interested in the political and theoretical assessment of deadnames (the former names trans people have discarded). How exactly is it that calling somebody a deadname causes harm? What status do deadnames have within various theories of names?
