Overview
I use gravitational wave data to study black holes, neutron stars, compact binary astrophysics and fundamental physics. My research spans probing fundamental physics, waveform modelling, parameter estimation and population inference. I use advaced statistical tools to understand individual compact objects, their populations and their evolution across cosmic history.
I am a member of the LIGO–Virgo–KAGRA, Einstein Telescope and Cosmic Explorer collaborations. Moreover, I have also contributed to the LISA and LGWA science. I work on both current gravitational-wave observations and the science of next-generation detectors.
Biography
Before joining Cardiff, I was a senior research fellow in gravitational waves at the University of Birmingham. In Birmingham, my research focused on developing gravitational wave data inference methods for next-generation detectors. Our work explored the possibility of detecting and characterising population III star remnants, the first stars known to be formed in the Universe. In addition, I led the compact binary population inference group of Cosmic Explorer Science Trace-ability matrix studies. I also conributed to the Einstein Telescope Observational Science Board by coordinating the division 1, the fundamental physics group.
In addition to contributing to the next-generation detector science, I also contributed to the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Scientific Colaboration, within the compact binary coalescence group. I am also co-chairing the fundamental physics working group of the International Gravitational Wave Network of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collaboration.
Formerly I was a National Postdoctoral Fellow at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR), Bengalure, India, and I mainly worked on probing fundamental physics with gravitational waves and theories beyond General Relativity.
My first post-doctoral experience was at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute), Germany as a Junior Scientist/Postdoc in the Max Planck Independent Group, Binary merger and Numerical relativity. At AEI, I worked on gravitational wave data analysis and waveform modelling, along with contributing to the fundamental physics, parameter estimation and waveform modelling working groups of LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Scientific Colaboration. Notably, I analysed GW190412 data using phenemenological waveform models and made direct contributions to the discovery paper. The novel method we developed was employed to test the nature of GW190817, and later on to all spinning exceptional events, specifically GW241011 providing the best constriants and to the testing general relativity catalogue papers.
Before starting the post-doctoral journey, I recieved PhD in Physics degree from Chennai Mathematical Institute, Chennai, India with thesis titled "Testing the nature of compact objects using gravitational wave observations" under the supervision of Prof. K. G. Arun.
