Overview
I am Head of Cardiff Professional Legal Studies (CPLS) at Cardiff University's School of Law and Politics, having previously been the programme leader for the Bar Training Course. CPLS is the department with the School which is responsible for the Legal Practice Course (LPC), Bar Training Course (BTC), Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and a range of other courses for the legal profession.
I have over 25 years experience of delivery of vocational legal education. I am an accredited advocacy trainer, I have a postgraduate diploma in education and have successfully completed the ADR Group Commercial Mediator Trainer Course.
I was appointed as a Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, Social Entitlement Chamber (fee paid). I am now a Judge of the First-tier Immigration Tribunal (fee paid).
I was admitted as a solicitor in 1993 and was called to the Bar in 1995. I have experience of representing clients in the higher and lower courts in the following areas of law, personal injury, product liability, professional negligence, contractual disputes, coroners inquests, and prosecutions on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive.
I have also had the following experience:
- External examiner for the BSB
- Member of Bar Standards Board monitoring panels
- BPTC providers representative on the BSB Education and Training Committee
- Expert witness scheme accreditor.
- External examiner for the Solicitors Regulation Authority higher rights qualification.
- Accreditation panel member for the Law Society of Scotland
- A member of the General Teaching Council for Wales (public appointment)
