Overview
Rhys is a doctoral researcher at the School of Law and Politics, supervised by Dr. Haro Karkour and Prof. Peter Sutch. Thys is also a graduate tutor at the department and holds an associate fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
Rhys' thesis develops the theoretical framework of 'existential security' in a security studies and nuclear politics context. This involves applying Rita Floyd's 'just securitisation theory' and its re-development of 'morally mandatory securitisation' to the case of NATO-Russia tensions, with implications for disarmament prospects but also offers insights on scenarios of nuclear use and nuclear war.
