Overview
Dr Lois Liao is a Research Associate at CASCADE (Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre), working on the Family VOICE project. She is also an Affiliated Associate at the Centre for Care. Her research focuses on understanding intersectionality through the lens of economic sociology.
Before joinging Cardiff University, she worked at the University of Sheffield and the London School of Economics (LSE). She holds a PhD in Housing Studies from University College London (UCL), an MA in Psychoanalytic Studies from Birkbeck, and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge. Lois has conducted visiting research at LSE, Renmin University of China, and the University of São Paulo.
Passionate about combining sociology with creativity and community building, Lois is also a qualified yoga instructor, teaching at Age UK since 2022.
Her current involvement of other projects include:
- Co-PI (2023 to now): Examining Private Rented Sector Discrimination in Gentrifying London (British Academy funded)
- Research Associate (2022 to now): Rethinking Domestic Abuse in Child Protection (RDAC) (Nuffield Foundation funded)
