Overview
My thesis is an investigation of an overlooked thousand year old story of a Queen who was taken to court by her son and accused of stealing land. This was recorded in the rear of the 1200 year old Hereford Gospels and contains the direct speech of a woman who died a millenia ago. In her own words she, and another female relative, defend themselves before the gathered aristocracy of the Shire and the King's representattive.
This account provides a fascinating window in to an area that is reltively unexplored, the pre-conquest Herefordshire Shire and its make up as part of the empire of Cnut.

After a career in the police I retired and my wife and I moved to leafy Herefordshire where we restored a 500 year old property, in Winter, while living in it brrr!!
Enthused by the history of the property and the area I undertook an MA with UWTSD and this led to my discovery of the documents which form the basis of my PhD.
