Overview
I have been a Law Lecturer in the department since October 2021. I am also a qualified immigration and asylum lawyer and lead the department’s immigration pro bono activities. Prior to being appointed as a lecturer, I worked in the school as a part-time tutor alongside working in legal practice.
I spent my practice career in the charity and legal aid sectors, primarily in immigration and asylum. My academic interest therefore lies in immigration and asylum law/policy/practice and access to justice, particularly in relation to vulnerable people.
Since 2022, I have devised and led immigration pro bono schemes in the department in partnership with Asylum Justice for which I have secured Welsh Government funding. In 2024, I set up the current scheme – Cardiff University-Asylum Justice Fresh Claims Project – which enables students to develop their legal skills by working on real-world asylum cases.
I previously worked as a supervising lawyer in the University of Bristol law clinic as well as teaching on CILEX professional law courses and much of my work seeks to grow links between the law department and legal practice, develop student skills and extend university-community engagement.
I am a trustee at Welsh Refugee Council where I am a Safeguarding lead and Chair the Strategy Sub-Committee.
I currently teach on the following LLB modules: Public Law; Law and Poverty
