Overview

I have been a lecturer in the department since 2021, and prior to this I was a part-time tutor for 3 years. I am a qualified immigration and asylum lawyer and lead our award-winning immigration student pro bono activities. I was previously a supervising lawyer in the Law Clinic at University of Bristol and worked for national charities such as Citizens Advice Bureau and Immigration Advisory Service.

My pro bono project, The Fresh Claims Project, is a partnership between the department and local charity Asylum Justice. The project provides advice, casework and representation for destitute refused asylum seekers in Wales. The project is funded by Welsh Government. Students gain unique experience of asylum law practice in the real world environment of a legal advice charity.

My previous immigration pro bono project - Ukraine Project Cymru - ran for two years and won the Cardiff and District Law Society Award for Best Access to Justice Initiative in 2023.

I am a trustee at Welsh Refugee Council, where I chair the Strategy sub-committee and am the trustee with responsibility for safeguarding.

My academic interest surrounds access to justice for immigrants and asylum seekers, immigration law and policy, immigration practice skills, employability and immigration careers (especially for the legal aid/charity sector).

I currently teach on the first year LLB Public Law module.
