Overview
I am a Lecturer in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy at the Dental School, with over 15 years of experience spanning clinical practice and academic roles in the dental sector. My professional journey has allowed me to develop expertise in dental hygiene and dental therapy education, particularly in integrating innovative teaching methodologies and advancing dental hygiene and therapy practices. I lead dental undergraduate courses and am deeply involved in both academic and clinical teaching, aiming to blend cutting-edge research with practical clinical skills training.
My passion for health promotion and commitment to educational excellence drive my efforts to prepare future dental professionals who are well-equipped to meet community needs with expertise and confidence. I actively engage in research that explores the integration of digital technologies, especially AI and remote dentistry, into dental training, aiming to enhance both the learning experience and patient care outcomes.

Research
My research interest focuses on the transformative impact of digital technologies in dental education and practice. I am particularly interested in how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and remote dentistry can revolutionise dental training and improve patient clincal outcomes. This intersection of digital innovation and dental health is not only a cornerstone of modern dental practice but also pivotal in shaping the future of dental education.

Biography
I am a Lecturer in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy at Cardiff University, focusing on undergraduate teaching, curriculum innovation, and integrating digital technologies in dental education. My work at Cardiff aims to enhance educational methodologies and outcomes through pioneering research.
Previously, I was Deputy and Acting Degree Programme Director at King’s College London, where I advanced the Dental Therapy and Hygiene Programme with a strong emphasis on academic quality and clinical excellence. My efforts were instrumental in elevating educational standards and integrating rigorous quality assurance processes.
Before King’s College, I served as an academic lecturer at Newcastle University, leading significant curriculum developments for the BSc ODHS and BDS degree programs. My role included overseeing the Board of Examiners, enhancing course delivery, and conducting impactful research on temporomandibular disorders.
My clinical foundation was built through varied roles in both NHS and private dental practices, providing a solid base in clinical dentistry, patient care, and community health. This experience has been pivotal in informing my educational strategies and research focus.
I hold a Master of Science in Public Health and a BSc in Dental Hygiene and Therapy from Teesside University. My educational background and ongoing professional development are critical in bridging clinical practice with academic theory, continually shaping my approach to dental education.
