Overview
I am a Lecturer in Public Law and Devolution with the Wales Governance Centre at Cardiff University’s School of Law and Politics. I teach EU law and the law of devolution.
My research interests lie at the cross-section of law and politics and relate broadly to Wales’ place in the UK’s territorial constitution. My recently completed PhD looks at the constitutional changes brought about by the process of EU withdrawal and how they have changed the boundaries and use of devolved competence. As part of my research, I spent time working with Senedd Research as an Embedded Researcher and this informed my research. The thesis thus looks in particular at the sub-state legislature's place in the constitution and analyses how the Senedd adapted to the process of Brexit.
I have also written about interparliamentary relations in the UK.
More broadly, I am interested in the work of legislatures, but on the role and functions of the Senedd in particular. As such, I sit on the steering group for the ‘Study of Parliament Group’ Cymru branch.
Prior to entering academia, I worked in the European Parliament and at the European Commission’s office in Cardiff.
