Overview
I am a current postgraduate research student in the Language and Linguistics department of the School of English, Communication and Philosophy (ENCAP). Prior to my PhD studies, I completed an MA in English Literature, and a BA with Honours in English Language and Literature, at Cardiff University.
My main research topic is the academic transition from post-16 to university education, thinking specifically about Arts and Humanities subjects and the Welsh Curriculum.
I am also a Graduate Tutor on the 2025/26 first-year module, Language and the Mind.
Research
My research interests are as follows:
- Transitions between post-16 and university education.
- Student and teacher perceptions of the expectations and requirements of students' academic writing in post-16 and university education.
- Academic literacy practices in Arts and Humanities subjects.
- The academic literacies model of studying and teaching academic writing.
- The Welsh Curriculum and the teaching of academic writing in secondary education institutions in Wales.
I am currently in my second year of PhD study, which is funded by the WGSSS. My PhD project is supervised by Dr Katy Jones and Dr David Schönthal.
