Overview
I am an experienced lecturer and an active member of assessment, curriculum, and programme development groups. Although I teach all aspects of human anatomy, my research and teaching interests are focussed on musculoskeletal anatomy, where I am passionate about integrating the gross anatomy of the limbs with surface anatomy, function, and pathology.
My research interests have focussed on the use of stem cells within articular cartilage repair but more recently my work spans anatomical education, musculoskeletal research, and leadership in teaching and assessment.

Research
My doctoral research focussed on the identification and analysis of articular cartilage progenitor cells and their potential application in the treatment of osteoarthritis.
More recently, my research has mostly concentrated on assessment methods and student perception and performance across a variety of assessment modalities. I am also investigating the effects of endurance exercise on health, with a particular emphasis on adaptations within the body. My work integrates structural and functional anatomical perspectives to better understand the benefits of exercise.
Teaching
I teach all regions of human gross anatomy to medical, dental, and biomedical science students. Delivering teaching from Year 1 through to final-year undergraduate level including supervising final-year project students.

Biography
I obtained a BSc (Hons) in Anatomical Sciences from Cardiff University in 1997. After graduating, I worked in the Department of Optometry and Visual Sciences at City University, London, as a research technician and anatomy demonstrator, working alongside Professor Ron Douglas and Professor Gordon Ruskell on undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
I returned to the School of Biosciences in 2000 as a research technician in Professor Charlie Archer's group. Alongside this role, I completed a PhD under the supervision of Professor Archer, focusing on the analysis of cell surface markers within immature bovine articular cartilage.
During my PhD, I combined research with extensive technical and teaching responsibilities, including management of the flow cytometry facility and anatomy demonstrating. I also pursued further studies in educational practice, which reinforced my passion for anatomy education.
Following my PhD I took up an anatomy lectureship position at Cardiff in 2012. I was promoted to senior lecturer in 2020.
