Dr Sukhwinder Singh

(he/him)

Research Associate (with Prof. Manu A. Haddad)

School of Engineering

Overview

Dr Sukhwinder Singh is a highly motivated researcher with a Ph.D. in Engineering, specializing in energy materials for renewable energy generation. With extensive expertise in material synthesis, characterization and simulations,Dr. Singh is committed to the progression of renewable energy technologies. He obtained his Master's degree in Physics from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and his Ph.D. from Cardiff University, UK. During his Ph.D. work, he conducted extensive research work focused on development of low-cost and eco-friendly thermoelectric materials for energy harvesting applications.

As a Research Associate, Dr. Singh is actively involved in a research project examining C4F7N as a potential substitute for SF6 in Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS). This project involves extensive research on the generation of gaseous by-products during electrical arcing, as well as the impact of moisture and atmospheric conditions on the of the unarced/arced gas mixture. Additionaly, the project aims to carry out in-depth studies on the compatibility of GIS materials, including metals and polymers, with the alternative gas mixture.Through collaboration with the research team, Dr. Singh aims to deepen the understanding of alternative gases potential as sustainable GIS solution, thereby supporting the UK's ambitious net-zero emissions target.

Research Interests:

  • Waste heat recovery and energy harvesting
  • Development of low-cost and eco-friendly novel materials
  • Alternative gas mixtures for clean energy solutions

Sukhwinder is a member of Advanced High Voltage Engineering Research Centre at Cardiff University.
