Overview

I am currently a Teaching Fellow in Mathematics at Cardiff School of Mathematics. I teach a range of classes at both undergraduate and master's levels, while also supervising MSc students' dissertations.

Research

My research interests include multidimentional moment problems. Prior to my role at Cardiff, I conducted PhD research on matrix-valued moment problems at Newcastle University.

Details at: D. P. Kimsey and M. Trachana, "On a Solution of the Multidimensional Truncated Matrix-Valued Moment Problem." Milan Journal of Mathematics (2022): 1-85

Selected research trips and talks:

  •  Joint Spectra and related Topics in Complex Dynamics and Representation Theory, 21-26 May 2023, Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS), Banff, Canada.
  • "On a solution of the multidimensional truncated matrix-valued moment problem" (invited talk), Truncated Moment Problems Special Session at the International Workshop on Operator Theory and its Applications 2022, 6-10 September 2022, Krakow, Poland.
  • A solution of the truncated multidimensional matrix-valued moment problem, Joint Mathematics Meetings 2022, Seattle, US, 5-8 January 2022 (online). Awarded LMS Travel Grant for ECR.

Teaching

I teach a variety of modules within the School of Mathematics, while I hold the status of Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).

As part of my teaching portfolio, I co-taught Algebra II: Rings (MA3014) in the 2022/23 academic year. Moreover, during the autumn semester of 2023/24, I delivered lectures for Linear Algebra II (MA2008), as well as computer-based classes for Foundations of Statistics and Data Science (MAT022). I've also been involved in workshops for Foundations of Mathematics II (MA1006).

In the upcoming spring semester of 2023/24, I will be teaching Ordinary Differential Equations (MA3012).
