Overview
My work forms part of the School's English Literature and Critical and Cultural Theory areas. I have taught widely on contemporary literature and theory at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. My research cuts across ecocriticism and the environmental humanties, modern and contemporary literature, Deleuze and Guattari studies, critical theory and continental philosophy. I also have research interests in the religious turn in contemporary theory and politics, economic criticism, and the far-right. I am the author of two monographs and have co-edited two collections. I am on the editorial board of Rowman & Littlefield's series Critical Perspectives on Theory, Culture and Politics and the scientific committee of the journal La Deleuziana. My current research project is on the connections between environmental culture and far-right politics.

Research
I draw on continental philosophy and theory, particularly Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, to research topics in ecocriticism and the environmental humanities. I also have interests in the religious turn within continental thought, economic criticism, and the far-right. My current research project is on ecoliteratures from modernism to climate fiction that reflect authoritarian and reactionary political ideologies.
My first monograph (Deleuze's Literary Clinic: Criticism and the Politics of Symptoms, 2012) explores Deleuze's suggestion that literature can be regarded as an enterprise of health. In that work, I argue that Deleuze's critical/clinical writings on modern and contemporary literature can be extended through the political theory he developed with Guattari. My second monograph (The Desert in Modern Literature and Philosophy: Wasteland Aesthetics, 2020) analyses how deserts and wastelands figure in a broad range of continental philosophy since Nietzsche and literature since the Romantics.
With Ian Buchanan and Tim Matts, I edited the collection Deleuze and the Schizoanalysis of Literature (2015). With Laurent Milesi and Christopher Muller, I edited the collection Credo Credit Crisis: Speculations on Faith and Money (2017). In 2010, I edited a special issue of the journal Deleuze and Guattari Studies titled 'Deleuze and the Symptom', based on a conference of that name that I organised in 2009. As a PhD student under Ian Buchanan, I helped organise the first International Deleuze Studies Conference in 2008.
Supervisions
I welcome applications from potential graduate students interested in ecocritical approaches to contemporary literature and culture, environmental social and political theory, the individual and collaborative works of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, and continental philosophy and theory generally.
