Overview

My PhD project looks at the experience for people living with dementia who are accessing museum-based activities (e.g. object handling interventions and or guided tours). My PhD project has a specific interest in the impact of museums on wellbeing for people living with dementia and what "dementia friendly" means in practice within a museum setting. My research centres the voices of people living with dementia, ensuring that their experiences are shaping the kinds of interventions researched and implemented.

My prior work spans projects with the NHS, Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum, local care homes and schools and centres around genuine co-production, collaboration and lived experience informed (and guided) research, predominantly with people living with dementia.

As an Autistic researcher, my own lived experience influences my approach to working with vulnerable groups. I strive for meaningful inclusivity and diversity and a genuine desire to create a space that supports groups whose voices are typically unheard in academic research.

Research

My research interests span across dementia care, creative health and social prescribing. My key areas of interest include:

  • Creative community based support.
  • Wellbeing impact of museum based activities.
  • Creative Cognitive Stimulation Therapy.
  • Meaningful involvement of vulnerable and or marginalised groups in academic research
