Zhangming Wu is a Senior Lecturer in School of Engineering, Cardiff University.
Zhangming Wu’s research delves deeply into solid and structural Mechanics, advancing engineering design through modern mathematical Modelling and Optimisation methods - M2OLAB.
His work spans the study of solid and structural mechanics, developing advanced mathematical modelling approaches that underpin general engineering optimisation, with particular emphasis in topology optimisation for discovering novel structural and material architectures. These methodologies are applied across diverse domains, including mechanical systems, renewable energy, biomedical engineering, sustainable transport, and civil infrastructure.

I am currently serving the Editor for Nonlinear Dynamics (JCR Q1 impact factor:5.6).
My innovative design of a biosensing system for biological cell characterization had been received a number of patents (US20120077219A1, WO2011001138A1, etc).
The analytical modelling and optimization methods I developed for variable stiffness composite structures had attracted nearly 400 citations and was the Top-3 most-cited paper in Thin-Walled Structures.
