Overview

Zhangming Wu is a Senior Lecturer in Structural Performance Research Group, Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, Cardiff University.

Zhangming Wu’s research centres on the Mathematical Modelling and Optimization Design of Engineering Problems, with broad applications in Mechanical, Sustainable Transport, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Robotics, and Renewable Energy etc.

Currently, I am leading (as PI) the following research projects:

  • A novel intelligent sensing system (funded by Royal Society);
  • A Novel Complex Variable Meshless Method (funded by EU/Welsh MSCA-COFUND)
  • Digital Structures (funded by CSC and Cardiff University)
  • Computational Intelligence Modelling (funded by CSC and Cardiff University)
  • Robust Optimization Framework - ROFiDMS (funded by EU MSCA-IF)

I am continuously organizing/chairing world-leading conference sessions/symposiums (ICCM-21, WCCM-XIII).

I am regularly inviting researchers with top reputation to give seminar presentations for the TWS (Thin-Walled Structure) group and the School of Engineering.

------

I have gained broad knowledge and skills in mathematical modelling, optimization, thin-walled structures, smart sensing system, in the subjects of mechanical, sustainable transport, civil and biomedical engineering in my research career.

My innovative design of a biosensing system for biological cells characterization had been received a number of patents (US20120077219A1, WO2011001138A1, etc).

The analytical modelling and optimization methods I developed for variable stiffness panels had been attracted over 200 citations and was the Top-3 most-cited paper in Thin-Walled Structure.
