Overview
I am currently an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in the School of Computer Science and Informatics, and a member of the Visual Computing research group. I am also a committee member of British Standards Institution and EPSRC Peer Review College. I serve as Chair for the Elections Committee of IEEE UK and Ireland SPS Chapter. I was a Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Waterloo, Canada. I received the Ph.D. degree from University of Science and Technology of China in 2021, joint with University of Waterloo from 2019 to 2021. I used to be a visiting professor in the School of AI at Dalian University of Technology; a visiting scholar in National Institute of Informatics, Japan; a research assistant with Intel; a research intern with Microsoft Research and Alibaba Group (both with outstanding awards). I am a Senior Member of IEEE, having affiliations with IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, IEEE Signal Processing Society, and IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. I was named in the 2024 edition of the Stanford University list of World Top 2% Scientists. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
My research interests span multimedia computing, perceptual image processing, and computational vision. In recent years, I have published over 100 refereed papers in these areas, including those published in prestigious journals and international conferences. My research has achieved real-world impact on the development of low-level vision techniques at Alibaba Cloud. I received IEEE CASS VSPC Rising Star Honorable Mention Award (the first recipient in IQA research field worldwide) in 2024, ACM SIGMM China Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award (1st nationwide) in 2022, and Grand Challenge Winner Award (1st place) in CVPR CLIC 2021.

Biography
I have been an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University since 2023. I am a member of Visual Computing Research Group. I am also a committee member of British Standards Institution. I am participating in the JPEG standardization activities.
Before that, I studied and worked in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Waterloo from 2019 to 2023. I used to be a visiting professor at Dalian University of Technology, a visiting scholar at National Institute of Informatics (Tokyo), a research assistant with Intel, a research intern in Microsoft Research and Alibaba Cloud. I had an educational background majored in Electrical Engineering at University of Science and Technology of China.
My research interests mainly focus on image/video processing, multimedia computing, applied perception, human-centric AI, computational photography, imaging, vision, displays, and machine learning. I aim to develop efficient and intelligent visual processing algorithms based on human perception, helping improve the quality of experience for human visual systems. I received IEEE CASS VSPC Rising Star Honorable Mention Award (the first recipient in IQA research field worldwide) in 2024, ACM SIGMM Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award (China Section, 1st nationwide) in 2022, and Grand Challenge Winner Award (1st place) in CVPR CLIC 2021.
