I am a Research Associate in the School of Social Sciences and an Evaluator in the School of Physics and Astronomy. In both roles I conduct mixed methods research in educational settings.
In SOCSI, I work in the Cardiff Unit for Research and Evaluation in Medical and Dental Education (CUREMeDE) where I carry out mixed method research into the training, wellbeing and preparedness-for-practice of healthcare professionals. I am currently involved in a number of ongoing projects related to undergraduate and postgraduate educational programmes in pharmacy, dentistry and optometry. I am also on the SOCSI Research Ethics Committee.
In PHYSX I am the Evaluation Lead for the Horizon2020 science education programme, Our Space Our Future. The programme has a vision to make careers in the space industry an exciting and achieveable aspiration for all young people. My role involves developing and implementing an international evaluation framework to measure the impact of the programme's interventions. I am also on the PHYSX Research Ethics Committee. I am also involved with some ad-hoc teaching on the third year Science Communication module.
Prior to these roles, I completed my PhD in Astronomy and Physics Education at Cardiff University in 2019. My research evaluated the implementation of a series of educational activities that applied astronomy as a point of engagement to the compulsory secondary school physics curriculum. These activities were evaluated through a mixed method design (a validated survey, semi-structured focus groups and interviews and classroom observations) in order to assess their impact on students’ learning experiences and engagement in physics.
