I joined Cardiff University in February 2016 as Reader in International Relations. I specialise in strategic studies, the history of war, and intelligence studies, and work on both historical and contemporary issues concerning the use of military power. My research focuses on the experiences of the British Army since 1945, in the contexts of British politics, the Cold War, the end of empire, and the War on Terror. Together with Dr Victoria Basham, I edit the journal Critical Military Studies.

Ymchwil
Mae fy ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar strategaeth filwrol Prydain ers 1945, ac rwyf wedi cyhoeddi ar y gwrthdaro ym Malaya, Kenya, Aden, Gogledd Iwerddon, Irac ac Afghanistan. Mae fy ymchwil yn archwilio sut mae strategaeth yn cael ei ffurfio ac esblygu, a'i heffaith ar gymdeithas. Fy llyfr diweddaraf, Uncivil War: The British Army and the Troubles, Cyhoeddwyd 1966-1975 gan Wasg Prifysgol Caergrawnt ym mis Hydref 2023.
Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n ysgrifennu ar bolisi amddiffyn cyfoes, Byddin Brydeinig y Rhein yn y Rhyfel Oer, ac addasiad y fyddin i'r byd ar ôl y Rhyfel Oer.
Hysbysodd fy ymchwil cynharach fy rôl fel tyst hanesyddol arbenigol yn achos Mau Mau yn yr Uchel Lys yn Llundain, a arweiniodd at 5,228 o ddioddefwyr artaith Kenya yn derbyn ymddiheuriad ffurfiol gan yr Ysgrifennydd Tramor ac ychydig o dan £20 miliwn mewn iawndal.
Mae fy ngwaith ymchwil ac effaith wedi cael ei ariannu gan yr Academi Brydeinig, Ymddiriedolaeth Leverhulme, y Cyngor Ymchwil Economaidd a Chymdeithasol, Sefydliad Scouloudi, Cyngor Cyllido Addysg Uwch Cymru, GW4, Prifysgol Caerdydd, Prifysgol Aberystwyth, a Choleg y Brenin Llundain.
Addysgu
Rwyf wedi addysgu modiwlau israddedig ac ôl-raddedig mewn hanes rhyngwladol, astudiaethau cudd-wybodaeth, strategaeth, polisi amddiffyn a chysylltiadau rhyngwladol. Rwy'n goruchwylio myfyrwyr doethurol ym meysydd strategaeth, hanes cudd-wybodaeth, gwrth-ymchwydd, polisi amddiffyn a chysylltiadau sifil-filwrol. Rwyf wedi bod yn Gyfarwyddwr Addysgu a Dysgu yng Nghaerdydd, wedi gwasanaethu fel arholwr allanol yn Warwick a Brunel, ac wedi bod yn adolygydd rhaglenni addysgu ar gyfer Southampton a St Andrews.
