Rwy'n arbenigwr mewn bioarchaeoleg, yn enwedig sŵarchaeoleg. Mae fy ngwaith wedi rhychwantu ystod eang o gyfnodau a lleoliadau, gan ganolbwyntio ar archaeoleg Neolithig a Chanoloesol. Fy mhrif ddiddordeb ymchwil yw defnyddio technegau dadansoddol blaengar i archwilio rhyngweithiadau hynafol rhwng anifeiliaid-dynol. Trwy hyn gallwn ail-greu cymdeithasau, ffyrdd bywyd ac economïau'r gorffennol trwy ddulliau amlddisgyblaethol.
Mae'r themâu penodol y mae gennyf ddiddordeb ynddynt yn cynnwys:
- Sŵarchaeoleg adar
- Sŵarchaeoleg Brydeinig
- Economi a chrefft ganoloesol
- Amgylchedd Ynys yr Alban a defnydd adnoddau
- Bwyta cynhanes: bwydo Côr y Cewri
- Allgymorth ac ymgysylltu
- Proteomics

Ymchwil
Rwy'n arbenigwr mewn bioarchaeoleg, yn enwedig sŵarchaeoleg. Fy mhrif ddiddordeb ymchwil yw defnyddio technegau dadansoddol blaengar i archwilio rhyngweithiadau hynafol rhwng anifeiliaid-dynol. Trwy hyn gallwn ail-greu cymdeithasau, ffyrdd bywyd ac economïau'r gorffennol gan ddefnyddio dulliau amlddisgyblaethol. Mae fy ngwaith wedi rhychwantu ystod eang o gyfnodau a lleoliadau, gan ganolbwyntio ar archaeoleg Neolithig a Chanoloesol. Mae fy ngwaith diweddar wedi canolbwyntio ar integreiddio astudiaeth draddodiadol sŵarchaeolegol gyda dadansoddiad gwyddonol a mapio diwylliant materol i ail-greu rhyngweithiadau rhwng pobl ag anifeiliaid yn y gorffennol mewn amrywiaeth o gyfnodau a lleoliadau.
Rwy'n archeolegydd sŵ adar, sy'n gweithio ar adar gwyllt a domestig. Yn ddiweddar, rwyf wedi arwain y rhaglen systematig gyntaf o ddyddio uniongyrchol ar gyfer ieir hynafol, gyda'r bwriad o ddod o hyd i ieir cynnar, a diystyru rhai ymwthiol. Mae ein gwaith wedi dangos nad oedd llawer o'r ieir cynnar honedig mor hynafol ag a gynigir, ac roedd rhai o'r cronolegau yn anghywir gan filoedd o flynyddoedd. Mae'r dystiolaeth newydd yn dangos na chyrhaeddodd ieir Ewrop tan y mileniwm cyntaf CC, tua 800 CC yn ôl pob tebyg, ac fe'u hystyriwyd yn bennaf fel egsotica nid bwyd. Mae ein rhaglen o ddyddio radiocarbon yn ailddiffinio'r cronoleg sefydledig ar gyfer cyrraedd a gwasgaru ieir ledled Ewrop a gogledd-orllewin Affrica a dyma'r tro cyntaf i ddyddio radiocarbon gael ei ddefnyddio ar y raddfa hon i bennu arwyddocâd ieir mewn cymdeithasau cynnar. Nid yw ein canlyniadau'n dangos unrhyw dystiolaeth o ieir yn Ewrop cyn y mileniwm cyntaf CC. Gall y prosiect hwn bellach weithredu fel sbardun ar gyfer gwaith dyddio uniongyrchol pellach i ymchwilio'n llawn i hynafiaeth cyflwyniadau cyw iâr, ac ehangu'r cwmpas i feysydd eraill.
Rwyf wedi gweithio'n helaeth ym Mhrydain, gyda ffocws ar gymunedau Ynys yr Alban, o'r cyfnod cynhanes i'r presennol. Rwyf wedi cyhoeddi'n eang ar ynysoedd yr Alban, gan gynnwys ar ddeunydd adar o safleoedd allweddol ar Dde Uist (Bornais, Cladh Hallan, a Cille Pheadair). Yn ddiweddar, rwyf wedi gwneud cyfraniadau sylweddol i'n dealltwriaeth o safleoedd canoloesol o bwys rhyngwladol yng Nghymru a Lloegr (gan gynnwys Llangorse, safle crannog Cymreig canoloesol lle datgelodd ein hymchwil rannu lladd sy'n cael ei yrru gan statws, a rendradau bwyd sy'n cyd-fynd â ffynonellau hanesyddol). Rwyf hefyd wedi bod yn ymwneud ag ymchwil arloesol ar ddifodiant anifeiliaid (e.e. yr auk mawr), cyflwyniadau (e.e. dofi gwydd) a chymhwyso methodolegau newydd (eggshell proteomics, dadansoddiadau isotop cynyddrannol ac ati).
Rwy'n gweithio'n fyd-eang ac wedi dadansoddi affauna a thacsa mamalaidd o Wlad yr Iâ (e.e. Alþingisreit) i Dwrci (e.e. Çatalhöyük).
Rwyf hefyd yn angerddol iawn am ymgysylltu ar sail treftadaeth a gwaith effaith. Arweiniais bortffolio effaith SHARE ar gyfer REF2021 fel Cydlynydd Effaith Ymchwil (UoAs 15 a 28), ac rwyf bellach yn Gyfarwyddwr Effaith ac Ymgysylltu ar gyfer yr Ysgol. Yn ogystal â chydlynu gwaith effaith ar gyfer UoAs lluosog, rwyf wedi ysgrifennu ICSs personol â sgôr uchel ar gyfer UoA15 mewn tri sefydliad, ac wedi cyfrannu'n gryf at5ed safle rhagorol cyflwyniad UoA15 Caerdydd ar gyfer Effaith mewn REF2021. Rwyf wedi bod yn ymwneud â Guerilla Archaeology ers ei ffurfio yn 2012, ac rwyf bellach yn cyd-arwain gyda'r Athro Emerit Jacqui Mulville (sylfaenydd). Rwyf wedi bod yn gyfrifol am gydlynu prosiectau ymgysylltu mawr gan gynnwys Bwyta Cynhanes a Gwyddoniaeth yr Oen.
Addysgu
Rwy'n addysgu ar draws sawl maes archaeoleg ar lefel UG a PGT, gyda ffocws ar y gwyddorau archeolegol. Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n arweinydd modiwl ar gyfer: Zooarchaeology; Dadansoddi archaeoleg; The Archaeology of Britain: Prehistory to Present; Traethawd Hir PGT MA.
Rwy'n cyd-gydlynu Archaeoleg Biofoleciwlaidd, ac yn cyfrannu at ystod amrywiol o fodiwlau eraill gan gynnwys: Fforensig ac Osteoarcheoleg; Gwyddoniaeth Archaeolegol Gymhwysol; Archaeoleg Canoloesol; Marwolaeth a Chofio; Bydoedd Canoloesol; Darganfod archaeoleg; Maes Archaeoleg a Sgiliau Ymarferol.
Rwy'n oruchwyliwr ar gyfer Astudiaethau Annibynnol, Traethodau Estynedig UG a thraethodau hir PGT.
