Mae Richard Cowell yn Athro Cynllunio Amgylcheddol. Mae fy niddordebau ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar sut y gellid ail-lunio systemau cynllunio defnydd tir, a pholisi cyhoeddus yn ehangach, i hyrwyddo cynaliadwyedd amgylcheddol yn well. Mae gen i ddiddordeb mewn dadleuon cysyniadol am ddehongli cynaliadwyedd a theorïau newid polisi, ond rydw i bob amser yn awyddus i ddarganfod beth y gellir ei ddysgu o achosion gwirioneddol lle mae brwydrau dros dderbynioldeb amgylcheddol cynlluniau, prosiectau a pholisïau yn digwydd. Mae'r berthynas rhwng cynllunio a pholisi amgylcheddol ac ynni yn ddiddordeb arbennig.
Rwyf wedi cymhwyso'r diddordebau eang hyn i gwestiynau am: effeithiau diwygiadau cynllunio ar gynaliadwyedd amgylcheddol; sut mae cynllunio yn rhyngwynebu â thrawsnewidiadau ynni, yn enwedig datblygiadau isaeilwaith fel ynni adnewyddadwy; ac effeithiau newid graddfa lywodraethu ar ddeinameg cynllunio a gwrthdaro amgylcheddol. Mae fy addysgu yn canolbwyntio ar ddimensiynau amgylcheddol cynllunio, ar bob lefel, o addysgu rhagarweiniol ar gyfer israddedigion blwyddyn gyntaf hyd at raglenni ôl-raddedig. O fewn hyn rwyf wedi darparu addysgu arbenigol ar agweddau ar gynllunio ar gyfer cynaliadwyedd, rôl cynllunio wrth hyrwyddo trawsnewidiadau tuag at systemau ynni cynaliadwy, a chynllunio a seilwaith.
Dros yrfa addysgu pum mlynedd ar hugain, rwyf wedi dal nifer fawr o rolau rheoli addysgu, gan gynnwys tiwtor blwyddyn, cyfarwyddwr cwrs (ar gyfer rhaglenni israddedig ac ôl-raddedig), ac wedi helpu i sefydlu a rhedeg y rhaglen arloesol PLANET Europe, gradd Meistr dwy flynedd sy'n cynnwys cydweithrediad rhwng Prifysgol Caerdydd, Prifysgol Radboud Nijmegen (Yr Iseldiroedd) ac Ysgol Gynllunio Sweden yn Blekinge, Sweden.

Mae gen i bob amser ddiddordeb mewn clywed gan ddarpar fyfyrwyr PhD sy'n dymuno cynnal ymchwil yn fy meysydd arbenigedd. Rwy'n astudio'r ffordd y mae systemau cynllunio yn mynd i'r afael â phroblemau amgylcheddol, gan ganolbwyntio ar sut mae problemau amgylcheddol yn cael eu deall, y dulliau llywodraethu a'r offer cynllunio a ddefnyddir i ddelio â nhw, a chanlyniadau polisi gwrthdaro datblygu-amgylchedd.
