Diddordebau ymchwil

Ffocws fy ymchwil yw nodi'r digwyddiadau cellog cynnar sy'n digwydd mewn prosesau clefyd fel arthritis. Yna gellir manteisio ar y digwyddiadau cynnar hyn fel dangosyddion clefydau i alluogi diagnosis a thriniaeth gynnar; neu fel modd o drin ac addasu'r broses afiechyd.

Mae ymchwil gysylltiedig yn yr Ysgol Deintyddiaeth yn canolbwyntio ar sut mae matrics allgellog yn arwain ymatebion cellog mewn prosesau ffisiolegol ond hefyd sut mae newidiadau yn ei etholwyr yn cyfrannu at glefydau mawr gan gynnwys arthritis.

  • Pennu rôl ADAM15 yn y pen a'r gwddf a chanserau eraill

Addysgu

Mae Dr Dewitt yn ymwneud ag addysgu israddedig ac ôl-raddedig. Mae'n addysgu ar gwrs Ecosystemau Llafar BDS Blwyddyn 2, ac yn arwain darlithoedd, sesiynau ymarferol a sesiynau dysgu mewn tîm sy'n canolbwyntio ar gamau cynnar datblygiad dannedd.

Dr Dewitt yw dirprwy arweinydd y cwrs MSc Bioleg Lafar, ac mae'n arwain un o'r modiwlau, 'Bôn-gelloedd, Meddygaeth Adfywiol a Dulliau Gwyddonol'. Mae'r modiwl hwn yn ymdrin â bioleg gellog bôn-gelloedd o wahanol ffynonellau, a'u cymhwysiad at ddibenion atgyweirio ac adfywio meinwe, yn ogystal â'r technegau labordy a ddefnyddir fel arfer i ymchwilio i brosesau o'r fath.

1999: First degree in Pharmacology, UWCM

2003: PhD from the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff (Phagocytosis by Neutrophils: The Roles of Ca2+)

2004 $acirc;   2010: Wellcome Trust funded Postdoctoral role in the Neutrophil Signalling Group, Cardiff University to investigate the mechanisms of neutrophil function

Awarded a Wellcome Trust VIP award to further research in neutrophil phagocytosis.

Successful co-applicant of a Wellcome Trust grant, investigating the role of calpain in the control of phagocytosis by neutrophils (with Prof. MB Hallett).

Successful co-applicant for a PhD studentship awarded by the MRC and British Lung Foundation as part of the MRC Capacity Building Studentship Competition (with Prof. MB Hallett).

2010 - ARC Cardiff Academic Fellowship (Cardiff University, School of Dentistry) working with Prof Aeschlimann and the ARCBBC team to develop biomarker assays that predict pathology, pain, inflammation and changes in joint function in musculoskeletal diseases
