Mae dyfroedd croyw yn fannau poeth o fioamrywiaeth a hefyd yn adnoddau naturiol hanfodol y mae lles dynol yn dibynnu arnynt. Fodd bynnag, mae defnydd lluosog ac aml sy'n gwrthdaro o'r dyfroedd hyn a'u dalgylchoedd wedi dirywio ecosystemau dŵr croyw yn sylweddol ledled y byd. Mae angen tystiolaeth ac offer ar frys i arwain rheolaeth dyfroedd croyw a'u dalgylchoedd o fewn terfynau amgylcheddol diogel.
Gan ddefnyddio dull ecosystem, mae fy ngwaith yn cyfuno dadansoddiad empirig ar raddfa fawr gyda manipulations ar raddfa lai yn y fan a'r lle, i fynd i'r afael â chwestiynau brys ar:
- Rôl bioamrywiaeth afonydd wrth gynnal gwasanaethau ecosystem allweddol
- Rôl prosesau'r dirwedd wrth reoleiddio bioamrywiaeth dŵr croyw
- Effaith newidiadau byd-eang ar ecosystemau dŵr croyw
Rolau
Cyfarwyddwr, Sefydliad Ymchwil Dŵr
Lansiwyd y Sefydliad Ymchwil Dŵr yn 2015 i fynd i'r afael â'r her fawr o reoli dŵr yn gynaliadwy i bobl ac ecosystemau mewn byd sy'n newid.
Ein cenhadaeth yw meithrin ymchwil ryngddisgyblaethol sy'n arwain y byd a fydd yn cael effaith gref ac yn cael ei defnyddio fel tystiolaeth gan y rhai sy'n gwneud penderfyniadau. Rydym yn gwneud hyn drwy ddarparu amgylchedd creadigol lle mae ymchwilwyr o wahanol ddisgyblaethau yn cyd-ddylunio a chyd-gyflwyno ymchwil gyda rhanddeiliaid a defnyddwyr terfynol i ddarparu dealltwriaeth ac atebion integredig i fynd i'r afael â heriau dŵr byd-eang.
Cyfarwyddwr, Cynghrair Diogelwch Dŵr GW4
Mae diogelwch dŵr yn golygu sicrhau bod digon o ddŵr o'r ansawdd cywir yn y lle iawn ar yr adeg iawn i bobl, ffermio, busnesau a'r amgylchedd.
Gyda 200+ o academyddion ar draws pedwar sefydliad ymchwil blaenllaw yn y DU (Caerfaddon, Bryste, Caerdydd, Caerwysg), Cynghrair Diogelwch Dŵr GW4 (WSA) yw'r grŵp ymchwil dŵr mwyaf yn y DU - ac un o'r mwyaf ledled y byd. Mae'n dwyn ynghyd academyddion a rhanddeiliaid gyda gweledigaeth gyffredin o fynd i'r afael â heriau diogelwch dŵr rhanbarthol, cenedlaethol a byd-eang
Cyfarwyddwr, Canolfan NEWYDD NERC ar gyfer Hyfforddiant Doethurol
Mae Canolfan Hyfforddiant Doethurol NERC mewn Biowyddorau Dŵr Croyw a Chynaliadwyedd (GW4 FRESH CDT) yn darparu amgylchedd ymchwil a hyfforddiant doethurol o'r radd flaenaf, ar gyfer y genhedlaeth nesaf o wyddonwyr dŵr croyw rhyngddisgyblaethol sydd â'r offer i fynd i'r afael â heriau dŵr byd-eang yn y dyfodol.
Mae'r CDT FRESH yn harneisio gwyddonwyr dŵr croyw o bedair o brifysgolion mwyaf ymchwil-ddwys y DU (Caerfaddon, Bryste, Caerdydd a Chaerwysg) ynghyd â sefydliadau ymchwil o'r radd flaenaf y Ganolfan Ecoleg a Hydroleg (CEH) ac Arolwg Daearegol Prydain (BGS). Mae FRESH yn adeiladu ar rwydweithiau sefydledig sydd ar waith, gyda chytundebau cydweithio profedig a phrofedig, a chymorth rhagorol i randdeiliaid hirsefydlog o ystod o gefndiroedd.

Ymchwil
Ymchwil
Mae fy niddordebau yn rhychwantu amrywiaeth eang o heriau amgylcheddol. O gefndir agronomeg, mae fy ymchwil yn pontio'r ffin rhwng y gwyddorau ffisegol, ecolegol a chymdeithasol, gan groesi ffiniau disgyblaethol mewn persbectif cyfannol. Mae fy ngwaith yn canolbwyntio ar ddyfroedd croyw fel lens integreiddio lle gwelir heriau amgylcheddol. Mae dŵr croyw yn hanfodol i fywyd, yr amgylchedd ac economïau, ond mae ei reolaeth gynaliadwy ledled y byd mewn perygl trwy'r cylch dŵr cyfan o newid byd-eang, y galw cynyddol a rheolaeth annigonol. O ystyried cymhlethdodau'r broblem, mae hon yn enghraifft wych lle mae datrysiadau cynaliadwy yn gofyn am ddull systemau cyfan sy'n integreiddio sawl sector ar raddfeydd.
Ariannwyd yr ymchwil hon dros y degawd diwethaf gan ystod o gyllidwyr (UKRI, EU, diwydiant, elusennau) a dros y 10 mlynedd diwethaf rwyf wedi bod yn ymwneud â PI neu gyd-PI mewn ymdrechion ymchwil amgylcheddol gwerth cyfanswm o dros £20m.
Bywgraffiad
Yn dilyn gradd mewn Gwyddorau Naturiol a gradd Meistr mewn Peirianneg (Ingenieur Agronome, Agrotech Paris), gweithiais mewn Ymchwil a Datblygu mewn cyd-destun diwydiannol (Danone Gwlad Belg). Yna dechreuais ar PhD mewn Ecoleg Tirwedd gan weithio yn yr Wcrain a Ffrainc, a datblygais fy ymchwil fwyfwy gan ddefnyddio ecosystemau dŵr croyw fel model yn ystod darlithyddiaeth 10 mlynedd yn Ffrainc (Rouen).
Gyda chefnogaeth elusen Daphne Jackson, elusen a sefydlwyd i helpu menywod yn ôl i fyd gwyddoniaeth, cefais 3 chymrodoriaeth ymchwil annibynnol ar ôl seibiant fy ngyrfa, cyn derbyn uwch ddarlithyddiaeth yn Ysgol Biosceinces Caerdydd lle rwyf bellach yn dal Cadair mewn Gwyddorau Dŵr Integredig.
Yn ei dro, mae gen i gyfle nawr i gyfrannu at fywyd academaidd a chyhoeddus, er enghraifft drwy ymwneud â:
