Ymchwil

My PhD thesis, ‘Sartre on Flaubert: Philosophy Becoming Literature’, was written under the supervision of Prof. Julia Jansen (KU Leuven) and Dr Angela Ryan (University College Cork).

The majority of my research to date has been devoted to underlining the philosophical significance of Jean-Paul Sartre's biographical studies. I am currently working on my monograph, titled Sartre's Existential Psychoanalysis: Knowing Others, contracted with Bloomsbury.

I also work at the intersection of phenomenology and feminist philosophy. I have published papers on the gendered politics of shame, women's psychological oppression, and the meanings that are projected onto women's bodies, as well as a book chapter that draws upon recent research into the phenomenon of ‘imaginative resistance’ to provide a feminist critique of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Research interests:

  • existentialism
  • feminist philosophy
  • psychoanalysis
  • phenomenology (especially the phenomenology of shame and failures of recognition)
  • philosophy of imagination

Addysgu

Undergraduate:

  • French Existentialism
  • Philosophy of Feminism
  • The Social Imagination

Postgraduate:
