Ymchwil
Mae gan fy ymchwil dri phrif ffordd:
i. Cyfraith ryngwladol ac Ymarfer y Wladwriaeth Affricanaidd
Yn gyntaf, mae fy ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar astudio cyfraith ryngwladol a sut mae rhanbarth Affrica yn rhyngweithio â chyfundrefnau, megis cyfraith a llywodraethu'r cefnfor, diogelwch morwrol, hawliau dynol a sefydliadau rhyngwladol. Mae fy ngwaith, yn fwyaf nodedig fy llyfr Africa and the Deep Seabed Regime: Politics and International Law of the Common Heritage of Mankind (2011), wedi bod yn ddylanwadol ac wedi cael effaith sylweddol yn y byd academaidd ac ymarfer. Er enghraifft, arweiniodd hyn at fy apwyntiadau fel ymgynghorydd/arbenigwr gan y Cenhedloedd Unedig (Cenhedloedd Unedig) a'r Undeb Affricanaidd (PA). Hefyd, mae nifer o'm gwaith wedi cael eu dyfynnu mewn amryw gyhoeddiadau sylweddol a ddefnyddir gan academyddion ac ymarferwyr, megis erthyglau cyfnodolion a adolygir gan gymheiriaid a llyfrau academaidd, yn ogystal ag Adroddiadau Cynhadledd 2008 a 2012 Cymdeithas y Gyfraith Ryngwladol (ILA).
ii. Astudiaeth ryngddisgyblaethol o gyfraith ryngwladol a gwleidyddiaeth ryngwladol
Yn ail, mae fy ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar astudiaeth ryngddisgyblaethol o'r gyfraith a gwleidyddiaeth. Er enghraifft, dyma brif thema fy llyfr a ysgrifennwyd yn 2013, The Politics of International Law and International Justice'. Disgrifiodd academydd blaenllaw mewn Cysylltiadau Rhyngwladol, er enghraifft, y llyfr hwn fel 'llyfr gwerth chweil a hynod ddiddorol sy'n croesi'r dadleuon rhyngddisgyblaethol dadleuol ynghylch cyfreithloni gwleidyddiaeth y byd' Yr Athro Patrick Hayden
iii. Cydweithio academaidd-practitioner
Yn drydydd, nod fy ymchwil yw sicrhau cydweithrediad a chyfnewid gwybodaeth academaidd/ymarferydd effeithiol. Er enghraifft, mae fy llyfr a gyd-olygwyd a gyhoeddwyd yn ddiweddar, a gyhoeddwyd ym mis Rhagfyr 2017, o'r enw Bakassi Dispute and the International Court of Justice: Continuing Challenges (Routledge) yn dwyn ynghyd academyddion ac ymarferwyr amrywiol o ystod o wledydd fel y Cameroon, Denmarc, Nigeria, y DU ac UDA i ysgrifennu gwahanol benodau yn y llyfr hwn.
Gan adeiladu ar fy ngwaith ymchwil ar gyfraith y môr a llywodraethu yn Affrica, rwyf wedi sefydlu enw da yn rhyngwladol fel llais academaidd blaenllaw mewn trafodaethau polisi rhyngwladol. Rwyf wedi cael fy mhenodi'n ymgynghorydd allanol arbenigol gan sawl sefydliad rhynglywodraethol mawr, fel y Cenhedloedd Unedig, PA a'r Awdurdod Gwely'r Môr Rhyngwladol (ISA), i ddarparu cyngor arbenigol, yn ogystal â chyflwyno adroddiadau, i hyrwyddo gwybodaeth a datblygu polisi rhyngwladol ar gyfraith a llywodraethu cefnforol yn Affrica. Er enghraifft, yn ddiweddar, ym mis Rhagfyr 2019, cefais fy mhenodi'n ymgynghorydd arbenigol gan y Cenhedloedd Unedig i ymhelaethu a chyngor ar fap ffordd strategol i ddatblygu rheoliadau mwyngloddio dwfn gwely'r môr Affrica. Yn flaenorol, ym mis Hydref 2018, fel ymgynghorydd arbenigol annibynnol a benodwyd gan yr ISA, paratoais, ynghyd â dau arbenigwr arall, gan gynnwys cyn Lysgennad y Cenhedloedd Unedig, adroddiad rhyngddisgyblaethol a adolygir gan gymheiriaid (77tudalen) ar y materion cyfreithiol, technegol ac ariannol, sy'n codi pan fydd rhaniad o'r ISA, y Fenter (corff masnachol rhyngwladol eithaf arloesol a fyddai'n cael effaith sylweddol ar yr ymgysylltiad gan wladwriaethau sy'n datblygu, gan gynnwys y rhai o Affrica, mewn cloddio dwfn ar wely'r môr), yn cael ei weithredu yn y pen draw.
Yn ogystal, yn seiliedig ar fy ngwaith ymchwil, rwyf wedi cael fy ngwahodd a'm hariannu'n gyson i wneud cyfraniad at lunio polisïau rhyngwladol, trosglwyddo gwybodaeth a meithrin gallu, yn enwedig ym maes cyfraith a llywodraethu cefnfor Affrica trwy fy nghyfranogiad a'm cyflwyniadau mewn nifer o gyfarfodydd polisi rhyngwladol lefel uchel, a drefnir gan sefydliadau Rhynglywodraethol, megis y Cenhedloedd Unedig, ISA, Ysgrifenyddiaeth y Gymanwlad, yn ogystal â llywodraethau'r Wladwriaeth, Gan gynnwys llywodraethau Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria a De Affrica.
