Ymchwil
Mae fy ymchwil yn canolbwyntio'n bennaf ar nodi signalau tonnau disgyrchol sy'n cael eu hallyrru trwy uno tyllau duon a sêr niwtron, a defnyddio'r arwyddion a welwyd i ddeall priodweddau'r ffynonellau. Dros y blynyddoedd, rwyf wedi datblygu rhannau helaeth o'r chwilio ac arwain ymdrech Caerdydd i chwilio am signalau uno deuaidd yn y data LIGO datblygedig.
Ddiwedd 2015, gwelwyd tonnau disgyrchol a allyrrir o uno tyllau duon am y tro cyntaf. Yn dilyn hynny, rydym wedi arsylwi mwy na hanner cant o signalau tonnau disgyrchol o uno tyllau duon a sawl un o sêr niwtron sy'n gwrthdaro.
Addysgu
- Datblygais a dysgu'r modiwl blwyddyn gyntaf 'Sgiliau Cyfrifiadurol ar gyfer Datrys Problemau, rhwng 2012 a 2015. Ewch i wefan y Cwrs.
- Datblygais a dysgais fodiwl y bedwaredd flwyddyn 'Perthnasedd cyffredinol Uwch a thonnau disgyrchol' yn 2015.
- Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n dysgu'r modiwl trydedd flwyddyn 'Special Relativity and Particle Physics'.
Bywgraffiad
Cafodd yr Athro Fairhurst BA mewn Mathemateg o Brifysgol Caergrawnt yn 1995, a chwblhaodd y rhan III mathemateg ym 1996. Enillodd fy PhD mewn Ffiseg o Brifysgol Penn State yn 2001, dan oruchwyliaeth Abhay Ashtekar. Roedd ei ymchwil doethurol yn canolbwyntio ar briodweddau gorwelion twll du.
Yn dilyn ei PhD, bu'n gymrawd ôl-ddoethurol Killam ym Mhrifysgol Alberta am ddwy flynedd ac yn gymrawd ôl-ddoethurol ym Mhrifysgol Wisconsin - Milwaukee am dair blynedd. Yn Milwaukee y dechreuodd weithio ar chwiliadau am donnau disgyrchol gan ddefnyddio'r synwyryddion LIGO, Virgo a GEO. Bu'n gweithio fel cydymaith gwadd yn Sefydliad Technoleg California am flwyddyn.
Ymunodd yr Athro Fairhurst â staff Prifysgol Caerdydd yn 2007. Bu'n Gymrawd Ymchwil Prifysgol y Gymdeithas Frenhinol rhwng 2007 a 2014. Ar hyn o bryd mae'n Athro ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd.
