Ymchwil
Rwy'n Athro Bioystadegau ac Epidemioleg Genetig yn yr Uned Bioystadegau a Biowybodeg (BBU) yng Ngholeg Meddygaeth Cymru, Prifysgol Caerdydd, y DU, ac yn cyfarwyddo'r ymchwil mewn geneteg ystadegol a gynhelir gan y BBU. Mae gan y BBU gysylltiadau agos â sawl adran sy'n cynnal astudiaethau cyswllt a chymdeithasu ar raddfa fawr o nodweddion cymhleth. Mae'r rhain yn cynnwys astudiaethau o sgitsoffrenia, anhwylder deubegynol, clefyd Alzheimer hwyr, ADHD a dyslecsia sy'n cael eu cynnal yn yr Adran Meddygaeth Seicolegol ar hyn o bryd. Rwy'n gweithio gyda nifer o gydweithwyr rhyngwladol, yn enwedig yr Athro Doug Levinson (Prifysgol Stanford, UDA), yn astudio sgitsoffrenia ac iselder mawr rheolaidd. Dros y 5 mlynedd diwethaf, mae aelodau'r BBU wedi bod yn awduron ar dros 150 o bapurau a adolygir gan gymheiriaid, ac wedi enwi ymgeiswyr ar grantiau a ddyfarnwyd gwerth cyfanswm o dros £8 miliwn.
Mae gen i ddiddordeb hirsefydlog mewn dadansoddi cysylltiadau genomau ac astudiaethau cysylltiad o nodweddion genetig cymhleth. Yn ddiweddar rwyf hefyd wedi dod yn rhan o'r gwaith o ddadansoddi data mynegiant genynnau, mewn astudiaethau cysylltiad a chymdeithas ledled genomau i ddod o hyd i eQTLs sy'n berthnasol i glefydau. Rwyf wedi cymryd rhan weithredol yn y gwaith o ddatblygu methodoleg ystadegol newydd ar gyfer dadansoddi cysylltiadau a chymdeithasu o nodweddion genetig cymhleth, yn enwedig wrth ddefnyddio cydfariadau mewn astudiaethau cysylltiad a chymdeithas, ac effeithiau gwall genoteipio ar astudiaethau genetig. Ar hyn o bryd, mae gennyf ddiddordeb arbennig mewn dadansoddi llwybrau swyddogaethol mewn data cysylltiad genom-gyfan, CNV a mynegiant genynnau.
