Ymchwil
Mae fy mhrosiectau presennol yn cynnwys:
- Astudiaeth Mamau a Babanod Cymru
Mae’r astudiaeth garfan hon yng Nghymru yn edrych i weld a oes cysylltiad rhwng rhai o’r canlyniadau a welir ar sganiau uwchsain yn ystod beichiogrwydd (a elwir yn "nodwyr") a phroblemau iechyd yn ystod plentyndod. I gasglu gwybodaeth ddilynol ar y mamau a’u plant, rydym yn defnyddio holiaduron a chofnodion iechyd ac addysg sydd ar gael yng Nghymru.
- Ymchwil ar farwolaethau a defnydd gofal iechyd mewn plant â Syndrom Down yn ystod y pum mlynedd gyntaf o fywyd
Mae’r astudiaeth hon yn cymharu gwybodaeth o Gymru a’r Alban. Rydym yn defnyddio data o Garfan Plant Electronig Cymru, e-garfan sy’n cysylltu gwybodaeth ddemograffig, iechyd ac addysg a gesglir yn rheolaidd yng Nghymu.
- Cyd-ymgeisydd ar y grant sy’n ariannu Canolfan Genedlaethol Ymchwil Iechyd a Lles y Boblogaeth (Ymchwil Iechyd a Gofal Cymru)
Trwy hyn, hoffwn ddatblygu prosiectau i archwilio a yw'n bosibl i ddilyn canlyniadau addysgol ac iechyd mewn plant ag awtistiaeth ac aelodau o’u teuluoedd gan ddefnyddio’r data sydd ar gael yn barod yng Nghymru. Bydd hyn yn creu ffynhonnell o ddata epidemiolegol i lywio datblygiad gwasanaethau iechyd ac addysg i gefnogi teuluoedd a lleihau anghydraddoldeb.
Yn fy ngwaith blaenorol yn Ysgol Hylendid a Meddygaeth Drofannol Llundain, roeddwn yn gyd-ymgeisydd ar brosiect “Alliance for Maternal and Newborn Health Improvement” (AMANHI, 2012-2016), astudiaeth garfan aml-wlad sy'n ymchwilio i iechyd mamau a babanod mewn 11 gwlad incwm isel gan ddefnyddio dulliau cyson ar draws y gwledydd. Cafodd y gwaith ei ariannu gan Sefydliad Elusenol Bill and Melinda Gates a’i drefnu gan Gyfundrefn Iechyd y Byd (WHO). Arweiniais yr uwch dîm rheoli ar gyfer y treial “ObaapaVitA” yn Ghana (treial i astudio effeithiau fitamin A ar farwolaethau yn ystod beichiogrwydd), yn goruchwylio gwaith tua 350 o staff maes a chymorth. Goruchwyliais hefyd dîm rheoli'r treial “Neovita” (treial i astudio effeithiau fitamin A ar farwolaethau mewn babanod yn y flwyddyn gyntaf o’u bywyd), oedd ag aelodau mewn pum lleoliad gwahanol ar draws y byd. Cyfrannodd y ddau dreial ddata i adolygiad Cochrane ar rhoi fitamin A yn ystod beichiogrwydd (McCauley et al 2015). Seiliwyd argymhellion WHO 2016 ar ddefnyddio fitamin A mewn gofal cyn geni ar yr adolygiad hyn. Fel rhan o’r gwaith hwn, rhoddais briffiau rheolaidd i Adran Datblygu Rhyngwladol y DU a'r Weinyddiaeth Iechyd yn Ghana, ac ymgysylltu â grwp datblygu canllawiau WHO, i’w hysbysu o’r canlyniadau a llywio eu hargymhellion.
