Gall problemau iechyd meddwl yn ystod plentyndod arwain at ganlyniadau pellgyrhaeddol i'r unigolyn, ei deulu a'i gymdeithas. Mae gennyf ddiddordeb mewn ffactorau risg ar gyfer problemau o'r fath, yn benodol Anhwylder Gorfywiogrwydd Diffyg Canolbwyntio (ADHD), Anhwylder Ymddygiad a phroblemau cyd-ddigwydd (megis Anhwylderau Sbectrwm Awtistiaeth ). Mae gen i ddiddordeb hefyd yn sut mae cyflwyno'r problemau hyn yn newid gydag oedran a sut mae gwahanol ffactorau risg yn gysylltiedig â chwrs datblygu anhrefn.

Cyflogaeth
Yn dilyn fy ngradd israddedig ym Mhrifysgol Durham, dechreuais weithio fel Seicolegydd Ymchwil (2001-2003) gyda'r Athro Anita Thapar yng Ngholeg Meddygaeth Prifysgol Cymru (Ysgol Meddygaeth Prifysgol Caerdydd bellach) ar brosiect a ariennir gan Ymddiriedolaeth Wellcome sy'n ymchwilio i genynnau tueddiad ar gyfer Anhwylder Gorfywiogrwydd Diffyg Sylw (ADHD). Taniodd y prosiect fy niddordeb mewn iechyd meddwl a deall y ffactorau risg genetig ac amgylcheddol sy'n gysylltiedig ag anhwylderau o'r fath.
Arweiniodd hyn at gychwyn ar PhD, dan oruchwyliaeth yr Athro Thapar a'r Athro Peter Holmans, gan ymchwilio i sut mae ffactorau risg genetig ac amgylcheddol ar gyfer ADHD yn dylanwadu ar gyflwyniad clinigol yr anhwylder a'r rhyngweithio rhwng y ffactorau hyn. Estynnwyd fy ngwaith drwy Wobr Cymrodoriaeth VIP Ymddiriedolaeth Wellcome (2005-2006).
Tra'n parhau i weithio ym maes ffactorau genetig a ffactorau risg eraill ar gyfer ADHD a phroblemau iechyd meddwl eraill plentyndod, yn ystod fy swydd ôl-ddoethurol yn yr Ysgol Meddygaeth (2006-2011), Prifysgol Caerdydd , ymddiddolais mewn defnyddio dyluniadau arbrofol naturiol i ymchwilio i lwybrau achosol rhwng ffactorau risg genetig, gwybyddol a chymdeithasol a phroblemau ymddygiad plentyndod.
Ar ôl gweithio gyda'r Athro Nick Craddock fel rhan o'r tîm sy'n sefydlu'r Ganolfan Genedlaethol ar gyfer Iechyd Meddwl (NCMH), y Ganolfan Ymchwil Biofeddygol gyntaf yng Nghymru (2012-2013), dechreuais swydd darlithydd yn yr Ysgol Seicoleg, Prifysgol Caerdydd, ym mis Awst 2013 a chefais fy nyrchafu i Uwch Lecutrer yn 2017.
