Ymchwil
Mae fy ymchwil yn rhyngddisgyblaethol ei natur; Mae'n canolbwyntio ar adfer, trosglwyddo ac adfywio arddulliau pensaernïol hanesyddol a ffurfiau cysylltiedig o deign gymhwysol ar draws amser a gofod. Sefydlodd fy PhD, 'Furnishing Britain: Gothic as a National Aesthetic 1730–1840' (St Andrews, 2012), a'r monograff sy'n codi, Gothig Sioraidd: Pensaernïaeth, Dodrefn a Thu Ganoloesol, 1730–1840 (2016), fy methodoleg ac enw da yn y maes rhyngddisgyblaethol hwn o hanes dylunio.
Mae gen i ddiddordeb mewn archwilio sut mae syniadau a ffurfiau pensaernïol yn croesi ffiniau disgyblaeth a'r hyn y mae'r broses hon yn ei ddweud am rôl ehangach pensaernïaeth o fewn diwylliant a chymdeithas hanesyddol. Mae gennyf ddiddordeb hefyd mewn ymchwilio i waith, methodolegau a dulliau ffigurau (gan gynnwys penseiri, haneswyr, connoisseurs, a hynafiaethau) sydd wedi siartio a chymhwyso gwybodaeth o'r fath i'w hymarfer eu hunain.
Wedi'i ariannu gan Ymddiriedolaeth Leverhulme, galluogodd fy Nghymrodoriaeth Ymchwil Gyrfa Gynnar Leverhulme (2016–19) i mi weithio ar greu deunydd hynafiaethol hanesyddol ffug ar draws treftadaeth ddiwylliannol - ar draws y celfyddydau gan gynnwys llenyddiaeth, celf, cerflunwaith, a phensaernïaeth; un o'r allbynnau yw fy ail fonograff: Unbuilt Mefus Hill (2022), a bydd fy monograff nesaf yn cynnig hanes rhyngddisgyblaethol Sioraidd a Fictoraidd hwn. Rwyf hefyd wedi gweithio'n helaeth ar y pensaer Fictoraidd cynnar, hynafiaeth, a'r fforiwr George Shaw (1810–76) o Uppermill, ac mae mwy o ymchwil ar ei arfer pensaernïol a hynafiaethol ar y gweill.
Addysgu
Rwy'n dysgu hanes a theori pensaernïol, yn enwedig ar gyfer Adeiladau Trwy Amser, a Phensaernïaeth mewn Cyd-destun.
Bywgraffiad
Rwy'n hanesydd pensaernïol sy'n arbenigo mewn ffasiwn bensaernïol Sioraidd a Fictoraidd—yn enwedig yr Adfywiad Gothig—yn ogystal â geirfa ehangach addurn pensaernïol a phensaernïaeth cymhwyso i'r celfyddydau perthynol o ddylunio, addurno a dodrefnu mewnol. Mae fy addysgu wedi canolbwyntio ar y tŷ gwledig—adeiladu, dylunio, a dad-drefedigaethu—C20 pensaernïaeth ym Mhrydain, a hanes yn gyffredinol.
Yn Gymrawd o Gymdeithas Hynafiaethau Llundain ers 2016, ymunais ag Ysgol Pensaernïaeth Cymru o Ysgol Pensaernïaeth Lerpwl lle dysgais hanes a theori pensaernïol ar gyfer Rhannau 1 a 2, ac o Brifysgol Fetropolitan Manceinion lle dysgais gyrsiau MA ar adeiladu a dad-drefedigaethu tŷ gwledig Lloegr.
Rwyf wedi derbyn pum cymrodoriaeth ymchwil ym Mhrifysgol Iâl, dau ym Mhrifysgol Rhydychen, ac un yn Durham, a rhwng 2016 a 2019 roeddwn yn Gymrawd Ymchwil Gyrfa Gynnar Leverhulme yn gweithio ar ddiwylliant materol hynafol ffug yn y cyfnod Sioraidd a Fictoraidd.
Mae fy nghyhoeddiadau'n canolbwyntio ar ddylunio Gothig, ffugio, a phynciau cysylltiedig sy'n cynnwys herodraeth, gweithgareddau hynafiaethol, ac adfer bywgraffiadau 'hen bethau coll', dulliau gweithio a diddordebau. Rwyf hefyd wedi ysgrifennu ar bortread chwedl Arthuraidd mewn celf Brydeinig. Fy nau fonograff hyd yn hyn yw: Gothig Sioraidd: Pensaernïaeth Ganoloesol, Dodrefn, a Thu Mewn, 1730–1840 (2016), a Strawberry Hill Unbuilt (2022); Mae fy ysgrifau ar ffugio ac, yn ddiweddar, meithrin diwylliant materol Tuduraidd yng nghyd-destun treftadaeth a chadwraeth wedi bod yn berthnasol i: Architectural History, The Burlington Magazine, The Georgen Group Journal, History Today, British Art Journal.
