Bywgraffiad
Cefais fy ngeni ym Mhen-y-bont ar Ogwr, fy magu yng Nghefn Cribwr, a mynychu Ysgol Gyfun Cynffig. Derbyniais fy ngradd israddedig ym Mhrifysgol Hull (1985-1988), ac yna gradd Meistr (1996-1997) a PhD (1997-2000) mewn Hanes yr Henfyd ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Yn dilyn Cymrodoriaeth Ymchwil yn y Brifysgol Agored a darlithyddiaeth yng Nghaerwysg, ymunais ag adran y Clasuron ym Mhrifysgol Caeredin yn 2004 ac yn 2015 deuthum yn Athro Astudiaethau Groeg ac Iran Hynafol. Dechreuais i â Chadeirydd Hanes yr Henfyd ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd ym mis Chwefror 2016.
Mae fy niddordebau ymchwil yn niferus ac amrywiol ac rwy'n cymryd golwg fyd-eang ar hynafiaeth. Fy mhrif faes diddordeb yw Iran hynafol a'i etifeddiaeth, ond rwyf hefyd yn gweithio ar hanesion a diwylliannau yr hen Aifft a'r Dwyrain Agos yn ehangach. Rwyf wedi gweithio'n helaeth ar hanesion diwylliannol Groegaidd, ar ryw yn yr hen fyd, ac ar dderbyniad y gorffennol mewn diwylliant poblogaidd a'r celfyddydau.
Mae fy nghyhoeddiadau diweddar ar Persia hynafol a'r Aifft Ptolemaic wedi cael eu cyfieithu i dros bymtheg o ieithoedd, gan helpu i sefydlu Hanes yr Henfyd ym meddylfryd y cyhoedd.
Rwy'n teithio'n aml i IMiddle East, yn aml yn arwain teithiau astudio diwylliannol a hanesyddol. Rwyf wedi gweithio gyda'r BBC, Channel 4, Netflix, PRIME, a'r Sianel Hanes a hyd yn oed gyda chwmnïau cynhyrchu Hollywood fel cynghorydd hanesyddol. Rwy'n adolygydd rheolaidd ar gyfer The Times and Times Higher Education.
Yn ddiweddar, gweithiais ochr yn ochr â'r Amgueddfa Brydeinig ar arddangosfa a oedd yn edrych ar gysyniadau o foethusrwydd yn Persia a Gwlad Groeg hynafol. Fel rhan o'r prosiect, cefais ddefnyddio fy ymchwil ar wisg hynafol i ail-greu rhai dillad Persiaidd hynafol. Aethant i'w gweld yn y BM ac fe'u gwelwyd gan dros 30,000 o bobl!
