Dr Fernando Loizides

Darllenydd (Athro Cyswllt)- Cyfarwyddwr yr Academi Gwyddor Data

Yr Ysgol Cyfrifiadureg a Gwybodeg

Trosolwyg

Rwy'n Ddarllenydd (Athro Cyswllt) mewn Cyfrifiadureg a Gwybodeg ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd ac yn Gyfarwyddwr yr Academi Gwyddor Data, y DU. Mae gen i hefyd Athro er Anrhydedd yn yr Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Fy mhrif faes ymchwil a datblygu yw Rhyngweithio Gwybodaeth a phrofiad y defnyddiwr (UX) gyda ffocws mawr ar Wneud Penderfyniadau a Hygyrchedd. Mae gen i brofiad helaeth mewn dylunio a hwyluso astudio defnyddwyr gan ddefnyddio technolegau blaengar, dileu gofynion defnyddwyr, gwerthuso systemau perfformio a datblygu systemau gweithio.

Ymchwil

Rwyf wedi cyhoeddi'n helaeth mewn cyfnodolion a chynadleddau rhyngwladol blaenllaw, gan ennill gwobrau fel papurau cynhadledd gorau a Gwobr Ardderchog mewn Ymchwil gan Google. Rwyf wedi sicrhau a chwblhau prosiectau a ariennir gan yr UE ac yn genedlaethol, wedi golygu sawl llyfr ac achos, ac wedi graddio sawl ymgeisydd PhD yn llwyddiannus. Rwyf wedi cadeirio cynadleddau ac wedi gweithredu fel golygydd ac adolygydd ar gyfer nifer o gynadleddau a chyfnodolion sy'n arwain y byd. Rwyf hefyd yn gwasanaethu ar bwyllgorau academaidd megis bod yn aelod arbenigol o'r Ffederasiwn Rhyngwladol ar gyfer Prosesu Gwybodaeth ar Grŵp Rhyngweithio Dynol-Computer TC-13, yr wyf wedi derbyn gwobr am Gyfraniad Eithriadol amdano. Rwyf hefyd wedi bod yn cymryd rhan weithredol yn y gwaith o greu tri labordy ymchwil Cyfrifiadureg newydd o'r radd flaenaf o'r gwaelod i fyny.

Addysgu

Rwyf hefyd yn athro profiadol a brwdfrydig, yn darlithio dosbarthiadau rhwng 10 a 300 o fyfyrwyr bob blwyddyn gydag adborth rhagorol. Rwyf wedi mynd ati i greu modiwlau newydd ac addysgu cwricwla (modiwlau a chyrsiau israddedig ac ôl-raddedig) sydd bellach wedi'u sefydlu'n llwyddiannus a'u mabwysiadu'n barhaol gan adrannau. Rwyf wedi ennill gwobrau gan y ddau fyfyriwr (Darlithydd Mwyaf Arloesol yn y Brifysgol) a  (Gwobr CATE gan yr Academi Addysg Uwch).

Diwydiant

Mae gen i dros 15 mlynedd o brofiad yn y diwydiant, fel datblygwr (gan ennill gwobrau fel cymhwysiad "mwyaf effeithiol yn gymdeithasol") gan greu busnesau newydd, rheoli timau ac ymgynghori. Mae nifer o'r myfyrwyr rwy'n eu goruchwylio wedi cael eu gwaith wedi'i fasnacheiddio. Rwyf wedi ymgynghori â sawl cwmni sy'n canolbwyntio ar dechnoleg o gyn-hadau/syniadaeth i brototeipio i gyllid a phroffidioldeb. Mae'r rhain yn amrywio o BBaChau i gwmnïau mwy fel y Swyddfa Batentau Ewropeaidd, Microsoft, Nokia a Google, ac endidau sector cyhoeddus fel cynghorau. Rwy'n gyd-sylfaenydd RapidLab, menter i greu prototeipiau gweithio cyflym ar gyfer profi dilysrwydd y farchnad a oedd yn rownd derfynol y Wobr Arloesi a Menter. Rwyf wedi rhoi sgyrsiau a gweithdai i gwmnïau fel Admiral ar Dechnolegau sy'n Dod i'r Amlwg, Profiad y Defnyddiwr a Hygyrchedd. Mae fy ngwaith wedi cael sylw ar y BBC, Radio, cylchgronau ar-lein a nifer o gyfryngau cymdeithasol.

Ymchwil

I focus on both theoretical and applied research and development in Emerging Technologies for Accessibility and Human-Computer Interaction and Information Interaction. Though the work I do is very cross-disciplinary, my main areas of research revolve around:

  • Information Interaction and Data Science
    • Technologies for Intellectual Property Management
    • Information Triage and Decision Making
    • Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence
  • Accessibility
    • Assisted and Independent Living
    • Emerging Technologies for Assistance with Visual, Cognitive and Verbal DIsabilities
  • Pedagogy, Education, Teaching and Learning Scholarship
    • Real-World Assessment and Feedback

Addysgu

Adopting Technology. This module provides students with an opportunity to evaluate new technologies in the context of real problems.  It will enable students to understand how new technologies can be introduced into organisations and how that process can vary across organisations.  The students will develop business cases that plan an adoption of suitable technologies.  The students enter the commercial world and are capable of critically evaluating and creating positive disruption through technology, balanced by an understanding of the risks involved. They can identify the potential benefits of a new technology for an organization, identify the risks and devise mitigation plans for adopting a new technology, assemble and analyse academic and industrial research work relevant to the case, write a business case combining risks, rewards and evidence for a technology adoption, critically evaluate the processes for business case creation and technology adoption.

Managing Software Enabled Change in Large Organisations. This module gives students an appreciation of the difficulties inherent in managing change in large organisations where software is a key enabler of change. Students investigate the difficulties of managing software-enabled change in large organisations through a range of case studies and will evaluate how these difficulties can be addressed through management standards, processes and techniques. The material covers: Appreciate the difficulties inherent in delivering software-enabled change in large organisations critical evaluation of the effectiveness of management standards, processes and techniques in addressing these difficulties, legal, ethical and social issues affecting managing software-enabled change and providing justified recommendations/actions for addressing these issues, development of a business case to assess options, costs, benefits, risks and timescales for a software project.
