Gary is a lecturer at the School of Healthcare Sciences and an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Neurological Rehabilitation for the Hywel Dda University Health Board.
In his NHS role he works with people with a range of long-term neurological conditions including stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury. Gary was the first physiotherapy independent prescriber in Wales and has utilised this skill in developing a physiotherapy-led spasticity management service which has been recognised nationally for its innovative use of prescribing and close links with community services.
At the university Gary teaches on the topics of neuro-rehabilitation and advanced practice, including non-medical prescribing and has carried out reseach in these feilds. He has a national reputation in physiotherapy non-medical prescribing and has worked in collaboration with the professional body (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) to promote its implementation.
