Overview
I am a senior lecturer at the School of Healthcare Sciences and an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Neurological Rehabilitation for the Hywel Dda University Health Board.
I specialise in the rehabilitation of adults with long term neurological conditions such as stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. This includes advanced practice role including non-medical prescribing of medicines and guided injection of botulinum toxin for the management of spasticity.

Biography
Gary is a lecturer at the School of Healthcare Sciences and an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Neurological Rehabilitation for the Hywel Dda University Health Board.
In his NHS role he works with people with a range of long-term neurological conditions including stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury. Gary was the first physiotherapy independent prescriber in Wales and has utilised this skill in developing a physiotherapy-led spasticity management service which has been recognised nationally for its innovative use of prescribing and close links with community services.
At the university Gary teaches on the topics of neuro-rehabilitation and advanced practice, including non-medical prescribing and has carried out research in these fields. He has a national reputation in physiotherapy non-medical prescribing and has worked in collaboration with the professional body (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) to promote its implementation.

- 2018: Voted 'Lecturer of the Year' by Cardiff University, School of Healthcare Sciences undergraduate physiotherapy students.
- 2014: Best of Health Awards, Hywel Dda University Health Board. Winner of ‘Chief executive’s award for best overall entry’ and winner in ‘Making a difference through better use of resources’ category. Entry: Physiotherapy Independent prescribing in spasticity management.
- 2012: Best of Health Awards, Hywel Dda University Health Board Highly commended in ‘Developing a safe and sustainable workforce’ category. Entry: Physiotherapy led spasticity management service.
