Enillodd Rukshan ei PhD mewn Peirianneg Awyrofod ym Mhrifysgol Cranfield ac ar hyn o bryd mae'n gweithio fel Darllenydd mewn Power & Propulsion, ac yn arwain yr Ymchwil Gyriad Awyrofod ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Cyn ymuno â'r byd academaidd, mae wedi treulio llawer o'i yrfa yn gweithio fel Peiriannydd, Rheolwr Prosiect ac Uwch Weithredwr mewn diwydiant awyrofod. Mae ei ymchwil bresennol yn canolbwyntio ar ddatblygu systemau gyriant newydd ar gyfer cymwysiadau trafnidiaeth. Mae Rukshan yn defnyddio amrywiaeth o offer a thechnegau rhifiadol ac arbrofol i ddatblygu technolegau gyriant o feichiogi cychwynnol trwy lefelau cynyddol o barodrwydd technoleg gyda golwg gyson tuag at fasnacheiddio a defnydd o'r byd go iawn. Hefyd, mae'n ymgynghorydd i nifer o sefydliadau lleol a rhyngwladol. Mae Rukshan yn Beiriannydd Siartredig ac yn Aelod o IMechE (DU), ASME, ac AIAA.
