Yn ddiweddar mae Jo wedi cael ei dewis fel rhan o Goleg Asesu Rhyngddisgyblaethol UKRI fel rhan o'r Pwll Cadeirydd a fydd yn rhedeg tan hydref 2025, gan weithio ar draws disgyblaethau UKRI. Mae hi'n gynrychiolydd CU ac yn Ddirprwy Gadeirydd Bwrdd Strategol Sero Net Rhwydwaith Arloesi Cymru .
Ar hyn o bryd Jo yw Cyd-Gyfarwyddwr prosiect Ecosystemau Pontio Gwyrdd a ariennir gan Gyngor Ymchwil y Celfyddydau a'r Dyniaethau, 'Trawsnewid Tai a Chartrefi ar gyfer Cenedlaethau'r Dyfodol' (2023 - 25), arweiniodd y Prosiect Amgylchedd Adeiledig Carbon Isel a helpodd i ddarparu tystiolaeth i gefnogi gweithredu technolegau carbon isel yn yr amgylchedd adeiledig. Bu hefyd yn chwarae rhan allweddol yn y gwaith o gyflwyno EnergyREV®, tîm rhyngddisgyblaethol iawn o 70+ o ymchwilwyr o 22 o brifysgolion ledled y DU gan ddarparu atebion ar gyfer cynyddu systemau ynni lleol craff.

Mae Jo Patterson yn Gymrawd Ymchwil Athrawon yn Ysgol Pensaernïaeth Cymru (WSA), Prifysgol Caerdydd ac mae ganddi fwy na 25 mlynedd o brofiad yn natblygiad a chyflwyno prosiectau ymchwil sylfaenol a chymhwysol ym maes cynaliadwyedd yn yr amgylchedd adeiledig gyda ffocws penodol ar ynni. Mae'r prosiectau hyn wedi cynnwys grwpiau amlddisgyblaethol o Gymru, y DU ac Ewrop gan gynnwys partneriaid academaidd diwydiannol a llywodraeth, gyda phrosiectau yn cael eu hariannu drwy'r UE, y Llywodraeth, UKRI a diwydiant.
Mae ymchwil diweddar wedi canolbwyntio ar gyfuno technolegau cyflenwi ynni adnewyddadwy, storio a galw (dull sy'n seiliedig ar systemau) mewn tai a chymunedau; Ymchwilio i'r gyrwyr a'r rhwystrau sy'n annog y defnydd o dechnolegau system carbon isel yn y DU ac Ewrop. Mae ymchwil flaenorol yn cynnwys modelu ynni trefol ar gyfer eiddo domestig a rhwydweithiau trafnidiaeth; offer gwerthuso ar gyfer cynaliadwyedd trefol; tai a chymdogaethau ac iechyd; ac ysgolion cynaladwy. Cwblhaodd Jo ei PhD ar 'Modelu traffig a beicio ar raddfa drefol gan ddefnyddio modelu cystrawen gofod' yn 2014. Nod yr ymchwil gyfredol yw atgyfnerthu ymchwil flaenorol i wella amgylcheddau adeiledig presennol i wella ansawdd bywyd a chynaliadwyedd, gan ddarparu tystiolaeth ar sut y gellir cyflawni hyn.

Fel Arweinydd Strategol Cyfrif Cyflymydd Effaith Cytûn EPSRC yn CU mae Jo yn gweithio gyda thîm o arbenigwyr o bob rhan o CU i ariannu prosiectau sy'n pontio'r bwlch rhwng ymchwil a dealltwriaeth y byd o'i allbynnau i greu effaith wirioneddol.
Yn ddiweddar mae Jo wedi cael ei dewis fel rhan o Goleg Asesu Rhyngddisgyblaethol UKRI fel rhan o'r Pwll Cadeirydd a fydd yn rhedeg tan hydref 2025, gan weithio ar draws disgyblaethau UKRI. Mae hi'n gynrychiolydd CU ac yn Ddirprwy Gadeirydd Bwrdd Strategol Sero Net Rhwydwaith Arloesi Cymru .
O ran ymchwil, mae Jo ar hyn o bryd yn Gyd-gyfarwyddwr ar gyfer yr ecosystem 'Trawsnewid Tai a Chartrefi ar gyfer Cenedlaethau'r Dyfodol' a ariennir gan AHRC sy'n anelu at greu ecosystem ddylunio aml-bartner, drawsddisgyblaethol newydd i drawsnewid tai ar gyfer cenedlaethau'r dyfodol gan ddefnyddio deunyddiau bio-seiliedig ac anechdynnu, ynghyd â chyflenwi a storio ynni adnewyddadwy. Bydd y rhaglen ymchwil hon, mewn partneriaeth â Phrifysgolion Caerfaddon, Bryste a Chaerwysg yn ogystal â rhanddeiliaid o ddylunio, y gymuned, cadwyni cyflenwi a'r llywodraeth yn helpu i gymryd camau pellach tuag at gartrefi 'Tu hwnt i Net Zero'.
Mae'r gwaith hwn yn adeiladu'n uniongyrchol ar y prosiect Amgylchedd Adeiledig Carbon Isel (LCBE) SPECIFIC, menter gwerth £3.5 miliwn yn Ysgol Pensaernïaeth Cymru (WSA) ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd i ddarparu tystiolaeth i gefnogi gweithredu technolegau carbon isel yn yr amgylchedd adeiledig. Mae systemau ynni tŷ cyfan dyblyg, fforddiadwy a phriodol wedi'u cynllunio, eu dylunio a'u gosod mewn amrywiaeth o adeiladau ledled De Cymru, gan gyfuno cyflenwad ynni adnewyddadwy, storio ynni a datrysiadau lleihau galw am ynni. Mae monitro yn digwydd cyn (gydag ôl-osodiadau) ac ar ôl gwaith gosod sy'n darparu tystiolaeth werthfawr o fanteision gwaith gan leihau allyriadau carbon a thlodi tanwydd, tra'n gwella iechyd a lles ac ansawdd yr amgylchedd adeiledig. Ar ôl gweithio gydag ystod eang o randdeiliaid, mae cwmnïau tai cymdeithasol, awdurdodau lleol, diwydiant, gweithgynhyrchwyr technoleg, gosodwyr ac, wrth gwrs, preswylwyr, i sicrhau bod y prosiectau'n cael eu cyflawni'n llwyddiannus. Roedd y gwaith hwn yn dilyn i Jo chwarae rhan allweddol yn natblygiad a chyflwyniad y Sefydliad Ymchwil Carbon Isel gyda chefnogaeth Llywodraeth Cymru/WEFO. Cyllid cysylltiedig gan gynnwys monitro a gwerthuso'r rhaglen Cartrefi fel Gorsafoedd Pŵer a fydd yn rhedeg tan 2028, gyda chyllid o £1m.
Rhwng 2018-2023 roedd Jo yn rhan allweddol o'r tîm arweinyddiaeth ac arweiniodd y gweithgareddau Rheoli Gwybodaeth, Ymgysylltu a Lledaenu ar gyfer consortiwm EnergyREV a ariennir gan UKRI/Innovate UKRI. Gweithiodd 70+ o ymchwilwyr rhyngddisgyblaethol o 22 o brifysgolion ledled y DU gyda'i gilydd i ddarparu tystiolaeth ar atebion i gynyddu systemau ynni lleol craff. Trwy gydol y prosiect hwn roedd Jo yn gallu rhannu ei phrofiadau o amrywiaeth o brosiectau arddangos o fewn LCRI a LCBE gyda grŵp amlddisgyblaethol eang sy'n cydweithio i fynd i'r afael â'r heriau sy'n gysylltiedig â systemau ynni lleol craff o safbwynt rhyngddisgyblaethol a systemau cyfan i ddarparu ehangder a dyfnder gwybodaeth i gynyddu cynnydd mewn SLES.
