Rwy'n ficrobiolegydd sydd â diddordeb brwd mewn archwilio ecoleg bacteriol a rhyngweithiadau rhwng rhywogaethau mewn bioffilmiau microbaidd ar draws amgylcheddau clinigol a diwydiannol amrywiol. Yn gynyddol, mae'n dod yn amlwg bod mwyafrif y rhywogaethau bacteriol ym myd natur yn bodoli o fewn bioffilmiau rhywogaethau cymysg, wedi'u siapio gan sbectrwm o ryngweithio cymdeithasol yn amrywio o gydweithrediad i antagoniaeth, nid yn unig ymhlith bacteria ond hefyd gydag aelodau o deyrnasoedd eraill. Credaf fod dealltwriaeth ddyfnach o ffisioleg bacteriol, ecoleg, nodweddion metabolig, a nodweddion esblygiadol yn gofyn am ystyriaeth gyfannol o'u cyd-destun biolegol.
Mae gen i ddiddordeb mewn datrys mynychder a mecanweithiau sy'n sail i ryngweithiadau cymdeithasol amrywiol o fewn bioffilmiau sy'n gysylltiedig â llawer o leoliadau naturiol, gan gynnwys clwyfau croen cronig, mewnblaniadau, y ceudod geg, a heintiau rheolaidd. Yn benodol, fy nod yw egluro sut mae'r rhyngweithiadau hyn yn dylanwadu ar ymatebion bacteriol i wrthfiotigau neu gyfansoddion eraill, megis polymerau naturiol newydd, a sut maent yn effeithio ar esblygiad a lledaeniad ymwrthedd a ffyrnigrwydd. Fy nod yw ymchwilio i fecanweithiau a gyrwyr (cemegol a biolegol) cydfodoli rhywogaethau o fewn y cilfach bioffilm, gan gynnwys dibyniaethau metabolaidd a'r angen am agregiad corfforol ymhlith micro-organebau amrywiol. Fy nod yw datblygu strategaethau arloesol gyda'r nod o darfu ar bioffilmiau neu atal eu ffurfio trwy dargedu rhywogaethau cerrig allweddol a modiwleiddio rhyngweithio cymdeithasol o fewn y cymunedau microbaidd cymhleth hyn. Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n canolbwyntio ar astudio rhyngweithiadau microbaidd mewn bioffilmiau rhywogaethau cymysg o berthnasedd clinigol, fel y rhai a geir mewn clwyfau heintiedig a chronig. Fy nod yw archwilio ysgogwyr cydfodoli bacteriol o fewn y bioffilmiau hyn a'u cydddibyniaethau, yn enwedig yng nghyd-destun goddefgarwch a gwrthficrobaidd. Yn ogystal, rwy'n ceisio datblygu strategaethau i dargedu'r cysylltiadau cymdeithasol sy'n ganolog i gydfodoli'r cymunedau hyn.

- Datod ecoleg bioffilm o heintiau mewn lleoliadau clinigol.
- Rhyngweithiadau microbaidd, gan gynnwys rhyngweithiadau trawsdeyrnasol, mewn bioffilmiau amlrywogaeth mewn lleoliadau clinigol a diwydiannol.
- Ymddangosiad goddefgarwch gwrthficrobaidd ac esblygiad ymwrthedd gwrthficrobaidd mewn bioffilmiau rhywogaethau cymysg.
- Datblygu therapïau newydd yn erbyn bioffilmiau sy'n gysylltiedig â chlwyfau acíwt a chronig.
- Datblygu probiotegau wedi'u targedu i frwydro yn erbyn cymunedau microbaidd annymunol.
- Deall metabolaidd a dibyniaethau eraill ymhlith micro-organebau amrywiol mewn bioffilmiau.
- Ymchwilio i yrwyr cydfodolaeth bacteriol mewn bioffilmiau, cemegol a biolegol.
