Mae Dr Tania Sharmin, yn Uwch Ddarlithydd yn Ysgol Pensaernïaeth Cymru (WSA), Prifysgol Caerdydd. Ers cwblhau ei PhD ym Mhrifysgol Caergrawnt, a ariennir gan Wobr 'Cyfadran ar gyfer y Dyfodol' Sefydliad Schlumberger, mae Tania wedi canolbwyntio ei hymchwil ar berfformiad amgylcheddol yr amgylchedd adeiledig ac effeithiau newid yn yr hinsawdd ar ficrohinsoddau trefol a chysur thermol dynol. Mae ei harbenigedd ymchwil yn gorwedd mewn archwilio'r berthynas rhwng morffoleg drefol a microhinsawdd trwy fesuriadau microhinsawdd a dadansoddi data lloeren. Mae Tania wedi cynnal ymchwiliadau trylwyr i ficrohinsawdd mannau trefol awyr agored mewn cyd-destunau trefol dwysedd uchel yn y trofannau gan archwilio ei effeithiau ar gysur thermol dynol a pherfformiad ynni adeiladu.
Gyda chefndir mewn cynllunio a dylunio trefol sy'n ymateb i'r hinsawdd a gwybodaeth arbenigol mewn modelu dynameg hylif gyfrifiadurol uwch (CFD), ynni adeiladu, efelychiadau cysur thermol, a dadansoddi data synhwyro o bell, mae Tania yn awyddus i ddeall y broses gynhesu trefol mewn dinasoedd dwysedd uchel ynghylch effaith ynys wres trefol (UHI) a'i ryngweithio â newid hinsawdd byd-eang. Mae ganddi ddiddordeb arbennig mewn deall sut mae digwyddiadau gwres eithafol yn cyd-fynd ag UHI yn effeithio ar iechyd y cyhoedd a chysur thermol pobl mewn cymunedau incwm isel. Mae gan Tania arbenigedd mewn casglu data goddrychol trwy holiaduron a chyfweliadau ar ficrohinsoddau trefol a chysur thermol dynol, sy'n hanfodol ar gyfer datblygu atebion sy'n gwella iechyd mewn ardaloedd poblogaeth drwchus.
Ar hyn o bryd Tania yw Prif Ymchwilydd prosiect dwy flynedd Cyngor Prydeinig y DU-Cronfa Partneriaethau Gwyddoniaeth Ryngwladol (ISPF) "Combating Urban Extreme Heat for Vulnerable Populations in Cairo", mewn cydweithrediad â Phrifysgol Cairo, Cronfa Datblygu Trefol Cairo, a Habitat International Egypt. Cyn hynny, arweiniodd brosiect 2024–2025 a ariennir gan AHRC-UKRI "H2O-STEP – Approaching Climate Resilience through Revitalising Historic Stepwells and Blue Infrastructures for Climate Adaptation", a gyflwynwyd mewn partneriaeth ag IIT Jodhpur ac Ymddiriedolaeth Tai Mahila. Mae'r prosiect yn ymgorffori mesuriadau microhinsawdd ac yn archwilio canfyddiadau gwres lleol ac arferion cymdeithasol-ddiwylliannol i nodi ymyriadau cyd-destun-benodol. Yn 2024–2025, arweiniodd hefyd brosiect a ariennir gan CCAUC ODA yn Cairo, gan ganolbwyntio ar wella gwytnwch i wres eithafol trwy ddadansoddi amlygiad gwres yn Rhanbarth Cairo Fwyaf trwy synhwyro o bell lloeren ac astudiaethau achos wedi'u targedu. Yn gynharach, fel PI o brosiect a ariennir gan Research England QR yn 2019 yn Ahmedabad, India, ymchwiliodd Tania i ddylunio cyfranogol a gwerthuso ôl-feddiannaeth mewn setliad incwm isel i ddeall mecanweithiau ymdopi cymunedol a chyd-ddatblygu atebion tai sy'n gwrthsefyll i'r hinsawdd.
Yn ddiweddar, cwblhaodd Tania Gymrodoriaeth Fyd-eang Fung (2022-23) ym Mhrifysgol Princeton, UDA, gan archwilio cynhesu trefol a chynnal iechyd mewn mannau trefol megacities. Mae Tania yn Gyd-I ym mhrosiect Ecosystem Pontio Gwyrdd AHRC (AH/Y003772/1) 3.8m ar gyfer creu Platfform Map Agored Cymunedol (COMP), ar gyfer y cymunedau gwledig, datgysylltiedig ac difreintiedig ar Ynys Môn, Cymru. Mae ei chyfraniadau yn cynnwys sefydlu, gweithredu a dadansoddi monitro amgylcheddol a chasglu data drwy ddull gwyddoniaeth dinasyddion drwy ymgysylltu â'r gymuned leol. Mae Tania yn Gyd-I yn yr EPSRC-Research (EP/Y00177X/1) (165k): SMART-H: SMART-Health-care. Ochr yn ochr â Tania mae prosiect Co-I yn Nghyfrif Cyflymu Effaith Cysoni Prifysgol Caerdydd (IAA, 50k) ar: Darllen gwydn gwres ar gyfer poblogaeth agored i niwed. Yn flaenorol, mae TS wedi cymryd rhan yn llwyddiannus ym mhrosiectau Researcher Links y Cyngor Prydeinig a Chronfa Newton fel Ymchwilydd Co-I sy'n canolbwyntio ar Datrysiadau sy'n seiliedig ar Natur a Modelu UHI yn yr Iorddonen ac effeithlonrwydd ynni, cysur thermol a lleihau allyriadau yn Cairo ac fel prosiect GCRF a ariennir gan QR ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd ar amgylchedd adeiledig sy'n gwrthsefyll i'r hinsawdd a chynaliadwy ym Malawi.

Mae Dr Tania Sharmin wedi datblygu methodoleg arloesol, amlhaenog sy'n integreiddio microhinsawdd drefol ac ymchwil Ynys Wres Trefol (UHI) i asesu eu heffaith ar iechyd. Ei hymchwiliadau oedd y cyntaf i ddangos effeithiau cadarnhaol geometreg a morffoleg drefol amrywiol ar ficrohinsawdd a Chysur Thermol Awyr Agored (OTC) mewn rhanbarthau trofannol, fel yr amlygwyd mewn astudiaeth gyda 148 o ddyfyniadau. Nododd hefyd gyfyngiadau mewn offer Dynameg Hylif Gyfrifiadurol (CFD) ar gyfer dal amrywiadau tymheredd aer sy'n gysylltiedig ag amrywiaeth morffolegol, canfyddiad sydd wedi derbyn 184 o ddyfyniadau. Yn ogystal, datblygodd Tania y Mynegai Cysur Thermol Ffisiolegol Cyfwerth (PET) yn benodol ar gyfer dinasoedd trofannol, gyda 115 o ddyfyniadau, a chreu modelau OTC rhagfynegol gan ddefnyddio paramedrau meteorolegol, personol a seicolegol trwy dechnegau atchweliad uwch, gan ennill 35 dyfyniad.
Mae prosiectau/grantiau ymchwil presennol a blaenorol Dr Sharmin yn cynnwys:
o Prif Ymchwilydd ym mhrosiect (£200k) Cronfa Partneriaethau Gwyddoniaeth Ryngwladol y DU (ISPF) Cyngor Prydeinig "Combating Urban Extreme Heat for Vulnerable Populations in Cairo".
o Prif Ymchwilydd yn y prosiect (£60k) a ariennir gan AHRC-UKRI "H2O-STEP – Approaching Climate Resilience through Revitalising Historic Stepwells and Blue Infrastructures for Climate Adaptation".
o Prif Ymchwilydd yng Ngwobrau ODA CCAUC (£40k) 2024/2025 o'r enw: "Gwella gwytnwch i wendidau gwres eithafol: astudiaeth achos o Ranbarth Cairo Fwyaf (IR2EHV-GCR)".
o Prif Ymchwilydd yn GCRF 2019 a ariennir gan QR Research England (£21k) o'r enw: "Profiadau cymdeithasol-ddiwylliannol ac amgylcheddol mewn anheddiad incwm isel yn India".
