Trosolwyg
Seicolegydd iechyd sydd ag arbenigedd yn y rhyngberthynas rhwng ffactorau seicolegol a chanlyniadau iechyd a chlefydau. Mae fy ymchwil yn cwmpasu tri phrif faes. Mae'r cyntaf yn ymwneud â dylanwadau seicolegol ar y corff ac mae'r gwaith hwn wedi dangos y gall hwyliau negyddol fel straen ac iselder ein gwneud yn fwy agored i heintiau, gan gynnwys COVID19; yn gallu arafu iachâd clwyfau, fel wlserau traed diabetig; a gallant hefyd wneud i frechlynnau weithio'n llai da. Mae'r ail faes yn ymwneud â dylanwadau seicolegol ar ymddygiad ac mae wedi archwilio'r ffactorau sy'n dylanwadu ar ymgysylltiad pobl ag ymyriadau iechyd fel sgrinio, gwisgo masgiau a brechiadau. Mae'r trydydd maes yn ymwneud ag ymyriadau a sut y gallwn 'harneisio pŵer' y dylanwadau seicolegol hyn i wella iechyd a lles cleifion a'r cyhoedd.

Ymchwil
Mae pob maes o gymdeithas, o iechyd a thechnoleg, yr amgylchedd, i'r economi, yn cael eu llunio gan weithredoedd, meddyliau a theimladau pobl. Y wyddoniaeth sydd wrth wraidd deall y perthnasoedd hyn yw Seicoleg, ac mae Seicoleg Iechyd, fy maes arbenigedd, yn ymwneud â sut mae'r perthnasoedd hyn yn effeithio ar iechyd a lles.
Mae fy ymchwil yn archwilio sut mae'r risg o glefyd, dilyniant salwch ac effeithiolrwydd triniaethau yn cael eu dylanwadu gan y meddyliau, y teimladau a'r ymddygiadau hyn. Er enghraifft, mae fy ngwaith wedi dangos bod hwyliau negyddol fel straen ac iselder yn rhagweld pwy fydd yn cael heintiau fel COVID-19; pa mor gyflym mae afiechydon fel HIV yn datblygu; ac effeithiolrwydd triniaethau mor amrywiol â IVF a brechlynnau. Mae fy ngwaith hefyd wedi archwilio pa ffactorau sy'n dylanwadu ar barodrwydd pobl i gymryd rhan mewn ymgyrchoedd iechyd cyhoeddus fel sgrinio canser, gwisgo masgiau wyneb; a sut gallwn ni wella ymgysylltiad â'r rhain?
Mae'r berthynas rhwng ein hiechyd a'n hiechyd yn bwerus. Maent yn bodoli hyd yn oed ar ôl i ni ystyried esboniadau biolegol ar gyfer iechyd. Mae fy ymchwil yn archwilio ym mha gyd-destunau iechyd mae'r perthnasoedd hyn yn bwysig a sut y gallwn harneisio'r effeithiau pwerus hyn i wella iechyd a lles unigolion a'r cyhoedd.
Addysgu
Rwy'n goruchwylio ymchwil israddedig ac ôl-raddedig sy'n ymwneud yn gyffredinol â sut mae ein seicoleg yn effeithio ar ein lles meddyliol a'n hiechyd corfforol. Mae gen i ddiddordeb arbennig mewn ymchwil sy'n canolbwyntio ar glefydau heintus (e.e. ffliw, COVID-19) a chlefydau cronig (e.e. diabetes a chanser) a datblygu ymyriadau pragmatig i wella canlyniadau iechyd.
Rwyf hefyd yn addysgu modiwl 3edd flwyddyn sy'n cyflwyno myfyrwyr i'r cysyniad o straen, ei effeithiau ar y corff a sut y gall hynny effeithio ar ein hiechyd corfforol ar draws ystod o glefydau.
