Ymchwil
Mae fy ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar Astudiaethau Cyfieithu ac Astudiaethau Diwylliannol Eidaleg.
Fy mhrosiect presennol yw Translating Sicily, Adapting Sicily, sydd i'w gyhoeddi gan LUP yn Hydref 2026. Mae'r monograff hwn yn archwilio'r ffordd y mae Sisili a Sicilianness wedi'u hadeiladu ar gyfer darllenwyr a gwylwyr yn yr Eidal a'r byd Eingloffon. Mae Sisili yn arbennig o atseiniol mewn cyd-destun trawswladol fel gofod sydd wedi'i ddychmygu, ei adeiladu a'i ddefnyddio o Uno'r Eidal ymlaen. Bydd y dull rhyngddisgyblaethol, sy'n cwmpasu Astudiaethau Eidaleg, Astudiaethau Cyfieithu, ac Astudiaethau Addasu, yn llywio archwiliad o gyfieithiadau, ac addasiadau ffilm a theledu, o weithiau gan awduron canonaidd Sicilian, o'r bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg hyd heddiw, i ddatgelu sut mae'r rhanbarthol yn cael ei gyfieithu i gyd-destunau cenedlaethol a thrawswladol.
Mae fy monograff 2018 In, on, and through translation: Tabucchi's travelling texts (Peter Lang) yn cyfuno dadansoddiad o'r ffyrdd y mae testunau'r awdur Eidalaidd Antonio Tabucchi wedi'u cyfieithu i ieithoedd eraill gydag archwiliad o'r ffordd y mae ei gyfieithiadau, ei draethodau beirniadol a'i ffuglen yn adlewyrchu ar werth a phosibiliadau cyfieithu. Mae'r llyfr yn awgrymu bod defnyddio cyfieithu fel modd i fynd i'r afael â gweithiau Tabucchi yn ein galluogi i ddatblygu safbwyntiau newydd ar destunau Tabucchi, ac i fyfyrio ar rai materion allweddol mewn astudiaethau cyfieithu. Un o'i brif arloesiadau yw dadansoddi corff newydd o gyfweliadau gyda chyfieithwyr Tabucchi, o bob rhan o Ewrop, Asia ac America. Mae'r cyfweliadau, a gynhaliwyd fel rhan o'r astudiaeth, yn cynnig safbwyntiau newydd diddorol ar y ffordd y mae'r un testunau (yn aml Eurocentric) yn symud rhwng ieithoedd, a'r posibiliadau a'r heriau y mae'r broses gyfieithu yn eu cynnig mewn gwahanol fannau ieithyddol a diwylliannol.
Mae ymchwil flaenorol wedi mynd i'r afael â'r ffordd y mae naratif diasporig y gymuned Eidalaidd yng Nghymru wedi datblygu mewn perthynas â naratifau ymfudwyr Eidalaidd eraill. Rwyf wedi cyhoeddi ar naratif Eidalaidd Cymreig a diwylliant caffi, ar hunangofiannau Eidalaidd Americanaidd ac Affricanaidd Eidalaidd y don gyntaf, ar ymateb Sandro Onofri a'r Chwith Eidalaidd i drais hiliol yn yr Eidal, ac ar ymateb Tabucchi i Pessoa. Mae cyhoeddiadau blaenorol wedi mynd i'r afael ag ymgysylltiad cymdeithasol-wleidyddol mewn llenyddiaeth Eidalaidd, yn enwedig yng ngwaith Sciascia a Tabucchi, cynrychioliadau o ymerodraeth yn Tabucchi, ffuglen dditectif Eidalaidd a defnyddioldeb syniad Lacan o'r real wrth ddeall testunau Tabucchi.
