Teams and roles for Jane Hopkinson

Overview

Hello. My name is Jane Hopkinson, Professor Emerita of Nursing and Cancer Care.

My research track record is in cancer and palliative care, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications. My expertise is supportive care in cancer cachexia, with particular interest in eating-related distress, nutritional care and issues for families affected by the syndrome. I have also conducted mixed-methods and qualitative research with older people, people with cognitive impairment/dementia, and people approaching end of life. The focus of my research is understanding symptoms and vulnerabilities that contribute to complex care needs. This knowledge is important for supportive care that can improve safety and equality in treatment outcomes and patient experience.

I am currently a member of the National Institute of Healthcare Research (NIHR) Cancer and Nutrition Collaboration and Chair of the collaboration's Health Equity Interest Group. I am also a member of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC), European Oncology Society (EONS), and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).
