Professor Emerita of Nursing and Cancer Care
Overview
Hello. My name is Jane Hopkinson, Velindre Professor of Nursing and Interdisciplinary Cancer Care and Trustee of Tenovus Cancer Care.
I have an established research track record in cancer care and palliative care, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications. My expertise is supportive care in cancer cachexia, with particular interest in eating-related distress, nutritional care and issues for families affected by the syndrome. I have also conducted mixed-methods and qualitative research with older people, people with cognitive impairment/dementia, and people approaching end of life. The focus of my research is understanding comorbidity and vulnerabilities that contribute to complex care needs. This knowledge is important for supportive care that can improve safety and equality in treatment outcomes and patient experience.
I am lead for the School of Healthcare Science Cancer Research Group, Cardiff University, Trustee of Tenovus Cancer Care, and represent nurse and allied healthcare professionals on the Wales Cancer Research Centre (WCRC) Leadership Team. I am currently a member of, the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Cancer and Nutrition Collaborative, the Society on Sarcopenia, Cachexia and Wasting Disorders (SCWD), Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC), the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), and the Knowledge and Dissemination Committee, International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC).
