Dr James Gregory

Honorary Senior Lecturer

Overview

I qualified as a clinical psychologist from University College London (2008) and completed a post-graduate diploma in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) at the Institute of Psychiatry (2010). I have worked in various mental health services, including Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT)/NHS Talking Therapies services and secondary care services in London and Bristol. More recently I worked for the DClinPsych programme and Centre for Specialist Psychological Treatments of Anxiety and Related Problems at the University of Bath before joining the South Wales DClinPsych programme at Cardiff University and Cardiff and Vale UHB in 2021. I became the Programme Director for the MSc Clinical Associate in Applied Psychologist programme at Cardiff University in 2023.

My main clinical research interest is Hoarding Disorder, which includes understanding the inter-relationships between self, others and objects and, in addition, learning about people’s experiences of accessing and receiving support for hoarding difficulties. I’m also interested in autobiographical memory, in particular, intrusive memories and images.
