Biography

Summary of Career:

Since 1998, I have worked as CEO of the private practice group ‘Horst Riede’ in Weinheim, Germany.  My principal clinical areas of work are mainly concentrated on contact lenses, primary eye care, dry eye and geriatric and pediatric eye care as well as the education of our staff and management. In addition, I am an independent investigator and lecturer for several optical companies, research groups and optometry schools and I am affiliated to the Cardiff University on a honorary base since years. My recent position there is leading the Dry Eye Module of the part-time Master course as honorary visiting Professor. My research interests are related to vision, tear film, cornea, and contact lens.

I graduated in 1994 as an Optometrist from the College of Optometry in Munich, Germany and I felt it important to extend my clinical skills by taking the Master of Science in Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (USA). Inspired by different research projects and teaching experiences in contact lenses and tear film, I commenced on a PhD at the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, Cardiff University, UK, from which I graduated in 2008. My PhD encouraged me to combine research, science, teaching and clinical practice to progress the clinical care of patients in my practices, as well as working to improve the understanding of contact lens wearing comfort by sharing my knowledge as lecturer at different Universities, Schools and national and international congresses.
