Entropy concepts in environmental decision making

The hypothesis of this research is that Entropy concepts and associated metrics, rooted in absolute physical limits, can usefully compare interventions intended to improve complex environmental situations and the metrics can then be used to develop a framework to support environmental decision making.

To test this hypothesis a series of case studies that compare options to improve environmental outcomes in the UK water sector are under development.  Entropy based metrics will be compared to economic and Life Cycle Impact Assessment methodologies for the case studies and critically reviewed.
