Overview
I am an PhD research student in the school of Social Sciences, currently focusing on Welsh language learning in English medium primary education in Wales. Prior to starting my studies, I worked as a primary school teacher in the English medium sector and acted as Welsh lead for my school. My experiences as a teacher and Welsh learner has influenced my research focus, particularly in the relationships between identity, motivation, pedagogy and learning outcomes.
Rwy’n fyfyriwr ymchwil PhD yn Ysgol y Gwyddorau Cymdeithasol, ac ar hyn o bryd yn canolbwyntio ar ddysgu Cymraeg mewn ysgolion gynradd cyfrwng Saesneg yng Nghymru. Cyn dechrau fy astudiaethau, roeddwn yn gweithio fel athraw mewn ysgol gynradd yn y sector cyfrwng Saesneg ac yn gweithredu fel arweinydd Cymraeg o fy ysgol. Mae fy mhrofiadau fel athro a dysgwr Cymraeg wedi dylanwadu ar fy nghanolbwytiad ymchwil, yn enwedig yn y perthnasoedd rhwng hunaniaeth, cymhelliant, addysgeg a chanlyniadau dysgu.

Biography
Mae fy nghefndir mewn Addysg Gynradd, lle roeddwn i'n gweithio fel Arweinydd Cymraeg fy ysgol. Arweiniodd ymchwil gweithredu a wnaed yn y rôl hon i mi ymgeisio am ysgoloriaeth ymchwil ESRC i archwilio darpariaeth ac arferion Cymraeg mewn lleoliadau cyfrwng Saesneg. Fel rhan o’m Meistr mewn Dulliau Ymchwil Gwyddor Gymdeithasol, cynhaliais werthusiad proses o’r ymyriad Automagic, y mae nodweddion ohono’n cael ein datblygu mewn i’m Traethawd PhD. Ochr yn ochr â’m hymchwil doethurol, dw i'n gweithio fel ystadegydd dadansoddwr data ar gyfer y MFL Mentoring Project.
My background is in Primary Education, where I acted as Welsh Lead for my school. Action research carried out in this role led me to apply for a ESRC studentship to explore Welsh language provision and practices in English Medium settings. As part of my Masters in Social Science Research Methods I carried out a process evaluation of the Automagic intervention, features of which are being drawn into my PhD Thesis. Alongside my doctoral research I work as a data analyst statistican for the MFL Mentoring Project.
