Learning Technology Assistant

Role responsibilities

My roles as a Learning Technology Assistant within the hub, which is part of the Digital Education Team within the Cardiff Learning and Teaching Academy, can be quite diverse, however, it focuses predominantly on providing support and guidance on using learning technology systems to colleagues in Colleges, Schools and Professional Services in the University.

Key work/specialisms

  • On a day-to-day basis I provide assistance and help to resolve issues relating to digital education and related platforms
  • In collaboration with other colleagues in the Digital Education Team I perform a variety of duties involved in the maintenance of online resources for academic staff and students related to digital education
  • I provide support to academic and professional services staff in Schools and Colleges to develop their expertise in blended and online education
  • I support the department with technology enhanced learning initiatives and project work

I joined Cardiff University in 2011 as a part-time evening and weekends Library Assistant in the University Library Service. My career progressed quickly and I became a full-time Senior Library Assistant/IT Support Assistant and I predominantly worked in one of the biggest sites on Cathays Campus – the Arts and Social Studies Library for 8 years. I also became a qualified librarian – I received my MA degree in Library and Information Services Management by distance learning at the University of Sheffield.

My experience, studies as well as interest in digital literacy and the IT side of service delivery within information services helped me get my current role as a Learning Technologist.
