Overview

I am a Principal Research Fellow in Statsitics at the Centre for Trials Research in Cardiff University. I also co-lead the WP1: Infections and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) work package in the Wales Centre for Primary and Emergency Care Research. I am a member of the methodology group for the newly funded Women's Health Research Wales Centre.

In my role as Principal Research Fellow within the CTR, I provide statistical leadership across all Divisions but mainly focussing on Population Health and Social Care and Infection, Inflammation & Immunity and am responsible for a large portfolio of trials and other well designed studies covering the following themes:

  • Womens health including the menopause
  • Maternity and infant/child health
  • Infections and AMR in primary care especially sore throats and urinary tract infections in children
  • People experiencing homelessness

In my role as a member of the methodology group of the newly established Women's Health Research Wales Centre, I will lead the quantitative methodology aspects for the centre.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

My background is in Medical Statistics. I have extensive expertise in the design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of randomised trials and other well-designed studies. I have experience in the development and evaluation of complex interventions. I have previously held a Fellowship awarded by Health and Care Research Wales to investigate the relationship between antibiotic use in respiratory tract infections and its associations with complications and AMR.

I have established methodological expertise in the use of electronic health records (EHRs)/data linkage especially in the use of electronic routine data to support clinical trials. This work has contributed to the CTR being a leading centre for Routine Data use in trials in the UK.

I also have expertise in using EHRs for quasi-experimental designs (such as observational/cohort studies, self-controlled case studies, Target trials). To date I have led two studies that used EHRs; the evaluation of the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) Programme in Scotland, using a natural experiment design (2) OSCAR – a study bringing in data on Domiciliary care workers and linking to heath and social care records.
