Overview

Dr Andrea Collins is Senior Lecturer at the School of Geography and Planning and an affiliate to CAST (Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations)

Her research interests cover the contribution of environmental indicators in assessing resource use impacts, specifically the ecological footprint as a policy and education tool, and sport ecology. Her current work focuses on assessing the environmental impacts of major sport and cultural events, and as agents of sustainable behaviour change. Andrea was involved in the development of the original content  of the eventimpacts.com website for UK Sport and its national partners (and subsequent revisions in 2016 and 2024). Her work has also informed the development Golf Environment Organisation Foundation's Voluntary Sustainability Standard for Golf Tournaments.

Andrea has undertaken a number of impacts studies of major events (sport, cultural and conferences) on behalf of event funders (e.g. UK Sport & Royal Welsh Agricultural Society) and with event organisers (e.g. Hay Literature Festival, the National Eisteddfod, Run4Wales, The Open & European Association of Sport Management). She is currently collaborating with external partners (The R&A, NTT DATA, EASM, Dragons RFC & Pledgeball) to assess the potential for events to be 'agents' of important sustainable behaviour changes.

Andrea is Programme Director for MSc in Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy.
