Professor of Organizational Analysis
Overview
Rick is Professor of Organizational Analysis at Cardiff Business School and co-convenor of the Centre for Innovation Policy Research (CIPR).
Between 2012 and 2019 he was the Dean of Research, Innovation and Enterprise at Cardiff University and led the successful development of the Social Science Research Park (SPARK). He is co author of the Nesta paper Social Science Parks - society's new super-labs. A discussion between Rick and co author Adam Price is available on the Cardiff University YouTube channel.
Between 2020 and 2025, Rick was the university lead for the design and delivery of the Cardiff Capital Region Challenge Fund in partnership with the Cardiff Capital Region (CCR CF).
In 2025, he was appoiinted Chair of REF Sub-panel 17 Business & Management.
He is a member of Medr's Research & Innobvation Committee.
His research interests include the management and organization of innovation, employment relations and Japanese management practices.
Rick is Editor in Chief of Research in the Sociology of Work (RSW), Associate Editor of Academy of Management Collections (AMC) and Associate Editor and incoming joint Editor-in-Chief of Organization Theory (OT).
