and I am Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University, and part of the Human-centred Computing (HCC) Research Section and its Subgroup in Computational and Human-centred Robotics.

I’m interested in Robotics, Human-Robot Interaction, Human-Computer Interaction and applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in those areas, with accessibility and co-design/participatory research as key aspects of my research.

I'm part of the National Software Academy (NSA), where I am the lead for the MSc module Agile Software Development, and I am Deputy Director of Equality Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) at the School of Computer Science and Informatics.

I'm currently Co-Investigator in the UK Robotics and Autonomous Systems (UK-RAS) network and part of the management team for EMPOWER, a support network for current and aspiring Principal Investigators that identify as women.

Teaching

Current teaching

I am part of the National Software Academy (NSA), where I am the module lead for Agile Software Development (MSc in Software Engineering). I also supervise final year undergraduate students and MSc students for their dissertation projects.

Past teaching

Besides undergraduate and postgraduate supervision, in previous institutions I have been lead for modules on User Experience Design.

I have also taught in a variety of modules, including Concept Development for a games computing programme, and Studying Human Performance and Ergonomics Methods for human factors and human-computer interaction programmes.

Biography

I am Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University, and part of the Human-centred Computing (HCC) Research Section and its Subgroup in Computational and Human-centred Robotics.

I previously worked as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Computer Science at the University of Lincoln, where I am currently Associate member of the Interactive Technologies Lab (IntLab), the Lincoln Centre for Autonomous Systems (L-CAS) and the Autism Research Innovation Centre (ARIC). Before this, I worked as Researcher in the Mixed Reality Lab and the Trustworthy Autonomous Systems (TAS) Hub at the University of Nottingham.

I have a multi-disciplinary profile with a background in Computer Science, Engineering, and Human Factors. I am interested in robotics, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) and applications of Machine Learning (ML) in those areas.

Most of my research is interdisciplinary, and it involves educational robots, industrial robots, and other, mainly embodied, Autonomous Systems, exploring the uptake of and trust in these systems, as well as control interfaces and novel ways of interaction that could improve the accessibility and inclusiveness of these technologies. For this, I have a strong focus on direct co-research (also known as Participatory Research) and co-design with end-users.

I’m originally from Toledo, Spain, although I’ve lived in different parts of Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. Besides my job I love dancing (various dance styles), watersports (kitesurfing, windsurfing) and music (singing, piano, guitar and drums).
